Nekromantix Does It Again,
This review is from: Return of the Loving Dead (Audio CD)
Ok, this album is probably their best album... It is kind of hard to pick one. Return of the Loving Dead has everything. This album stays true to the psychobilly genre. They are still extremes in that area. Unlike Curse of the Coffin, Nekromantix did not try too hard and over do the psycho image (although i do not regret buying Curse of the Coffin). Nekroman is a beast on his bass, and the lyrics are great. The songs on this album are all in the same catagory, but somehow they cover a variety of feelings. When you are in the mood to just kinda rock out, there are songs that are very appealing, when you wanna hear/see something messed up and twisted... Oh yeah, you can get that on this album. And if you are in the mood for just moderation, there are a few songs for that, or you can basically just turn the volume down a little, except on the twisted ones! The album has some good length to it, and i would reccoment this album, and actually gaurentee that you will like it if you like bands such as, Tiger Army, Horrorpops, Nekromantix (duh), Koffin Kats, and The Misfits. If you ever liked any of the Nekromantix albums... then get this one. You will become a Nekro fan for life. If Nekromantix is new to you, then you might want to sample a few of their songs first (Who Killed The Cheerleader, Hellcat, Subculture Girl, and Nekronomicon... that should cover some of the variety)
Honestly... Get the album If you have any questions regarding the album you can e-mail me at tcupp@recupp.com

Psychobilly at its best,
By Dan Callahan (Long Valley, NJ) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Return of the Loving Dead (Audio CD)
I bought this album in August of 2005 at a record store in Banff, just browsing the store and looking for something that I thought I would like. I saw this album sitting among racks and racks of other albums and it stood out because I remembered listening to 'Gargoyles Over Copenhagen' on an Epitaph promo cd, a song which grew to be one of my all time favorites. However, now my taste for this band has grown to encompass not only to allow me to enjoy simply one or two tracks, but simply the entire disc.
This album is quite simply a masterpiece. Nekromantix have an instantly recognizable, signature sound that is supplied by the dark, evil vocals of lead singer Kim Nekroman as well as the 'CoffinBase' that he also plays. This combination of instruments and vocals creates a band that sounds something like The Clash straight from the '50s. This entire album reeks of nostalgia from B grade horror movies and mid-'50s Rockabilly. However, this album is simply great, insanely high-energy punk rock with a country-esque flair. Although the album may be very high energy, it is also very accessible to the average listener who wants to get into the heavier side of punk. An excellent, all-round buy. Standout tracks: Nice Day for a Resurrection Subcultural Girl Gargoyles Over Copenhagen Trick Or Treat Murder For Breakfast Haunted Cathouse* * - Favorite Track

HAIL TO THE DEAD KINGS OF PSYCHO!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Return of the Loving Dead (Audio CD)
Now, I'm gonna have to disagree with many psychos out there when I say that this album is pretty darn good! I love these kings of psycho just as much as any other psycho out there and i'm gonna have to say that this album is one of there best and it comes pretty close to rivaling curse of the coffin and hellbound. I don't think they got watered down at all and actually think that this hellcat release is really gonna help to get the gospel of psycho out to all my fellow american teens and psychos who don't know what there missing. I love this album and its a hell of a lot better than Demons are a Girls Best friend.

Unholy marriage of the Misfits and the Stray Cats!,
By Stu Nietzsche "bloody poet" (Cana, VA USA) - See all my reviews

This is some of the better psychobilly out there. Like the review title says, this is like some marriage made in hell of the Misfits (Glenn Danzig-era) and the Stray Cats. The geetar is both twangy and thunderous. Each track is good; hard to pick out a favorite. This is also my first exposure to NEKROMANTIX, so I can't comment on their other albums. Highly recommended, get this or be fed upon by the Loving Dead!

Kick ass cd,
This review is from: Return of the Loving Dead (Audio CD)
I have been listening to the Nekromantix for years now and all I can say is that they can do no wrong. Every single cd they have made since debuting with Hellbound has been pure genius and alot of fun to listen to. Return of the Loving Dead is definetely no different. This is a cd that I can listen to from start to finish every single day. It starts out with Nice Day for a Resurrection which is one of my favorites then goes into one of their funniest songs called Who Killed the Cheerleader. Also on this cd is Subcultural Girl which is about Patricia, his wife and bassist/vocalist for HorrorPops(another great band, which Nekroman plays guitar for). Other stand out tracks for me were Gargoyles Over Copenhagen, Murder For Breakfast(a very funny song), Necronomicon, and Haunted Cathouse(my favorite song on the cd). Like I said this is a fast and fun psychobilly cd and on top of that Nekroman is one of the nicest people you'll ever meet. And for the guy that talked about the lyrics from Where Do Monsters Go. This style of music is not about making you think or intelligent lyrics. Leave rockabilly to those of us who appreciate rock and roll, horror movies, and kick ass music.

This review is from: Return of the Loving Dead (Audio CD)
I've had this CD for several years now and I still listen to it a lot! I was in the Punk scene for years and thought I'd never stray away until I met the Nekromantix! I just happend to stumble on it and ended up loving it! Now I'm more into the psychobilly/ rockabilly music, so you could say that the Nekros made me a changed girl.

Dark, scary, fast, funny, full of B movie jive...you get it all on this one. This is what psychobilly is about. I still crack up at "Who Killed the Cheerleader," and "Nice Day for a Ressurection" kicks the whole thing off with a hard hitting bang. People into horror punk will love this one also...so stop reading this and click buy it now.

This albums so good I could eat it!,
By Lloyd "Lloyd" (UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Return of the Loving Dead (Audio CD)
Nekromantix are the perhaps the most underated band ever. They are a truly talented band and are one of the greatest bands it has been my pleasure to listen to! The true quality of the Nekromantix is a force to be reckoned with, and this is shown to the highest standard possible on their latest album 'The Return of the Loving Dead'. With their sound most oftenly reffered to as Psychobilly, Nekromantix took this genre of music to new levels, mainly by changing the original formula of Psychobilly and creating their own unique style and sound that sounded more punk and gothic.
Much like the Misfits, Nekromantix base the themes of their songs around their fascination with Horror films. Return Of the Loving dead is a rare album for the main reason that every song is as good as the last, a rare find in any album & once again proving how talented and powerful this band really are. Who Killed the cheerleader is a perfect song in every way possible, sick & clever lyrics, screaming guitar solos, pacy drumlines and a pulsing bassline. Trick or Treat is a very clever song and is all about my favourite event of the year, Halloween. Haunted Cathouse has one of the greatest endings to a song ever, so amazing it sends a chill down my spine every time i listen to it. These songs are nothing short of amazing... Return Of the Loving Dead proves that Nekromantix have now reached the height of their long lived career. Return of The Loving Dead is much like a great horror movie, Its clever, thrilling, fun and leaves you wanting more.

A swingin' zombie-fest of rock from Hell,
By Charlie (Here, There, and Everywhere) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Return of the Loving Dead (Audio CD)
Return of the Loving Dead gives your head a sensation like no other. While simply being a bone-crushing effort in the trio's legacy that has now lasted over a decade, The Nekromantix music gives one the feeling of being transported into a nostalgic 50's jukebox era zombie fest, while keeping a modern guitar assault, making it a breahtaking, macabre filled, gothadelic/psycho masterpiece. Highlight tracks on the album include the opener "Nice Day For A Resurrection" which puts one in the mood to wander to the nearest graveyard to dance the night away, and "Gargoyles Over Coppenhagen" will cause an apocyloptic gargoyle invasion upon your mind. Even a barnyard rockabilly stomp on the night of the full moon is created in "Haunted Cathouse", while the psycho opus-like "Nekronomicon" brings the album to an ending as if walking into a desert sunset. Perhaps this album will get more attention in years to come. Also: If you are looking for an amphetimine-paced psychobilly album, this is not that album. Stick to old Nekromantix albums, especially Curse of the Coffin(which is also great, it only depends on what musical mood may be in.)With each album the Nekromantix expand to new horizons and it has taken them to great places. This is no exception. |
