This review is from: RIJKS Museum Amsterdam: Great Museums of the World (Hardcover)
I am a collector of art museum books and I always wanted one about the Rijksmuseum. Although published in 1969, it makes a great introduction of the museum as well as a nice survey to Dutch and Flemish seventeenth century painting, the museum's main attraction. Vermeer, Hals, Rembrandt, Ruisdael, de Hooch, Steen, Brueghel, and Rubens are just some of the many Golden Age artists represented. There are also examples of Netherlandish Renaissance works, a major eighteenth century painting by Cornelis Troost, and a small sampling from its lesser known foreign collection(Italy, France, and Spain). I only wished that there were some examples of works from the nineteenth century Hague and Amsterdam School artists who were mentioned in the book's introduction. For those who visited the Rijksmuseum and want a souvenir book of some of its most famous works, I strongly recommend this one.
