I've had experience with R/C planes, helicopters and other toys all my life. I've always loved the thought of a flying ball like this, and jumped at the chance when I saw this one was going for cheap. I figured at worst it would be an inexpensive loss if it didn't work out. I was wrong though.. it flies like a champ and is more durable than I expected! It's not a sophisticated unit but you can have lots of fun once you get used to it.

I hope my review is helpful to your purchasing decision and use! It is lengthy, so just find a topic which interests you. Below I have these main topics in my reveiw: The Good, The Bad, Spare Thoughts, Summary, Age Group, Misconceptions, Emergency Shutdown, How to Fly, Orientation, Payloads, Troubleshooting.

THE GOOD:

* Low price - For what you get, the price is spot on. I wouldn't pay more than $30 shipped for this unit, which is great because I paid $25.

* Durable - A lot more durable than I thought. The plastic cage is "soft" and gives, so impacts don't break things as easily as you might suspect. I've crashed this thing hard about 30 times, and it keeps flying.

* Great flight time - I'm getting 7-15 minutes on average, depending on how hard I'm flying the unit. I've seen 20 minutes from just letting it hover and float around the room. Not bad at all for something in this price range. If you're not used to the RC hobby, basically you charge it for a lot longer than you get to use it. It's just how it goes.

* Easy to learn how to fly - It really is easy, just be patient and within 2 charging cycles you should be able to get the general hang of it. I have some tips below.

* Really great self stabilization - It's better than the store bought stuff for under $20, trust me.

I have had a few rc choppers way more expensive than this, and this is a good buy. Don't confuse it as easy to fly due to its' simple form. But it is fun. I got 2 for the kids. Now here is the bummer, the directions are terrible and non-informative. If you need to change the IR channel follow closely. First select your channel on the handset, next turn the handset on. Then turn on the helo and it will search for your channel, the handset light will stop blinking once they are linked. To set up the next one I might go out of IR range/line of sight with the first one. Good Luck and look out for ceiling fans.

This heli is not about form (lets face it, despite how they play up the odd shape it is ugly and lacks the "gee-whiz factor" of the realistic scale model competition) nor is about function (it is far less advanced for the price than many other copters on the market), it is about survivability. This is not the same as durability as this can break, but rather is less likely to break due to rookie mistakes. In addition to physically surviving crashes it will typically land right side up allowing immediate take-off again, perfect for the learning beginner who spends more time on the ground than in the air.

Although the control difficulty is probably closer to the hard end of moderate it is still one of the best "training wheels" mini r/c helicopters around. It fights you just enough to teach you how to handle such situations as trim control, air drafts, and IR interference without the high risk of damaging the toy or household objects. The net result is a pilot gets to repeat mistakes often enough to grow from them as opposed to a normal helicopter which would long since have broken.

I'm a 70 year old "kid" and I bought this for myself. I wanted one with a protective cage around it, so I wouldn't break too many of my wife's artworks.

It works great! It's simple to learn to maneuver it . . a seven-year old houseguest got it right in about 2 minutes . . . and even an old guy like me can keep it under control. Plus, the flexible but strong globe/cage/frame protects both the copter and my house.

My dog isn't nearly as enthusiastic, though, but it's kinda fun to chase him with it! The on-board battery has greater durability than I expected. I think I'm getting more than the advertised five minutes from a full charge.

All in all, this has already provided more than its cost in fun. Five stars!

Pretty much a break proof toy... Lots of fun to fly around.
About the only issue I have with it is that it tends to suck itself against walls and other objects if you get close to them and you don't have enough control to move away. But it works like a champ. Recharges quickly and the charging cord has a light to know when it's fully charged (it goes off). Very nice!

Works great but doesn't fly more than a few minutes on a charge. While the battery isn't dead it just can't spin the props fast enough to maintain altitude. Also the forward/back control has a lot of delay - you get used to it. Great fun while it's flying!

This was a gift. I only gave this 3 stars because for the price they could have included more spare rotar blades. Yes, they do break easily and it came with one spare each. First one broke then another. It was a lot of fun while it lasted. Replacement blades are hard to find. So this sits on a shelf waiting. If we can't get anymore blades then it will be a short lived Christmas present. They could at least give the buyers a place to buy some replacement blades if they can't include more.
