Product Description

Product Description

ROCCAT KONE + MAX CUSTOMIZATION GAMING MOUSE Laser - Cable - Black - USB - 6000 dpi - Tilt Wheel - 8 Button(s) - Right-handed Only

From the Manufacturer

With a 6000dpi Pro-Aim Laser Sensor and its integrated Tracking & Distance Control Unit (TDCU), the further development of the prize-winning ROCCAT Kone Gaming Mouse has power under the hood. A massive upgrade made to the driver and the introduction of the Easy-Shift[+] button has also turned the Kone[+] into a customizable marvel.

Maximum Performance

The revolutionary 6000dpi Pro-Aim Laser Sensor, in conjunction with its 10.5 megapixel resolution and 1000Hz polling rate, offers maximum precision, even transmitting lightning-fast mouse movements with up to 30Gs of acceleration and with speeds of up to 200ips (5.08m/s) without loss or lag. Thanks to the Tracking & Distance Control Unit, which is now integrated in the laser sensor, the ROCCAT Kone[+] can also calculate the lift-off distance as well as fine-tune the sensor to suit the mousepad. The result: optimal tracking.

Ergonomic Hybrid Shell

The hybrid shell for right-handers hsd been improved to further increase the comfort of Kone's successor. The mouse wheel is completely new: distinctive notch positions are perfect for gaming, and the wider design makes it easier to control. The button above the mouse wheel has been made larger and you'll now find a nicely-sized toggle switch below the mouse wheel.

22 Mouse Functions

Thanks to the Easy-Shift[+] button, all the buttons--including the mouse wheel--can be assigned two functions such as macros or other functions. As a result, you now have 22 functions available at any one time instead of the usual 12.

ROCCAT Kone gaming mouse customizable lights

Four LED Light System

Four multicolor LEDs, together with the enhanced lightpipes and configurable effects, can light up, alternate or pulsate in more than four different colors at the same time.

Five Game Profiles

You can configure your button assignments, including macros, DPI settings, the sensor sensitivity level and your lighting settings too, and save them to any one of five profiles on the 576kB of onboard memory. This allows you to customize your mouse to suit individual games. You can associate each profile with a particular application so the right button assignments, DPI and color settings, etc., are automatically loaded when you start the game. When a profile is set as the Windows Profile, the ROCCAT Kone[+] will always switch to this profile when you return to Windows after leaving a game or app. Additional profiles can be saved on your hard drive whenever you want, and then loaded to any one of the five profile slots using the driver menu.

Macro Manager

Creating and editing your own command sequences is made easy thanks to the Macro Manager. Predefined macro presets for the top 20 PC games as well as several office apps make it even easier to customize the mouse. Plus the new Loop Function now makes it possible to loop macros indefinitely.

Sound Feedback

The ROCCAT voice gives immediate feedback when you change DPI settings, profiles, the volume level or sensitivity setting. Since you don't need to look at an additional display on the screen or on the mouse itself, nothing will distract from the gameplay.

Customizable Weight

A weight system comprising 4 x 5g weights is included, allowing you to customize the weight in four stages to suit your preferences.

Purchased this mouse back in November 2011. I've used a Sidewinder X8 and a Mionix Naos 5000 and I play mainly FPS games plus a few others from other genres (LOL, Shogun 2, GTA IV and Diablo III beta :p)

PROS:

Hardware:
First I have to say, if you're a palm gripper or a semi palm/claw (which I am) this is a VERY ergonomic mouse, the mouse is large and will support your palm and the tactile and audio feedback of left/right buttons are terrific. The mouse also comes with weights 4 5g weights (I like my mice heavy) which you can put in or leave out. The mouse has a large hump (good for supporting my palm) and is flat on the right side allowing both my pinky and my ring finger rest on the mat. The left side has a nice place for your thumb and the two buttons there are easy to reach and use (the forward might require just a tad reach if you have short thumbs like me, but it's totally doable). The scroll wheel is also very easy to use as the scroll wheel itself has an excellent pattern on it that makes gripping it and scrolling very easy and accurate (ie. you won't be scrolling 2 steps when you only want one) which is good for those who play FPS's and use the scroll wheel to switch weapons (guilty! I really need to learn to use the number keys). All the other keys (2 DPI keys below scroll wheel, the 2 thumb keys, single key above the scroll wheel and the middle click of the scrollwheel) all feel very nice and are plenty useful except the key above the scroll wheel because it's sunken in and quite a pain to use (I didn't even both mapping it). LEDs are nice, totally customizable and the silkscreen of their logo on the mouse looks cool (until it wears off, check my cons later). The material is matte, rubberized plastic which feel really good in your hands.

Roccat will NOT honor the warranty of their products. There are alot of highlights on this mouse but none of them matter if the mouse is not functioning correctly. First mouse sent was defective and returned immediately. The replacement mouses scroll wheel began to fail after a few months of use, and got to a point where it was not usable. Both of the mice were the newest revision. I contacted Roccat and they sent a reply that it was caused by defective hardware and that the mouse would need to be returned to place of purchase because exchanges or returns directly to Roccat "are unfortunately not possible". This is a major problem because most places- Amazon included, have 30 day return policies. ROCCAT would NOT HONOR THEIR OWN PRODUCTS WARRANTY and do nothing to assist me in getting a new mouse. Don't take my word for it, do a search for "Roccat Kone+ scrollwheel problem"

This mouse has met or exceeded my expectations in every way. I will be more detailed below, but for anyone just looking for a quick assessment, the Kone[+] is an incredible gaming mouse. The Easy-Shift feature is both unique and undeniably useful. I have a natural palm grip, and I am very happy with the size of the mouse. Fingertip players will probably agree; claw grip players will likely find this mouse too big. A friend who does professional photo editing and graphic design mentioned this would be a great mouse for him as well. The driver has six preset DPI settings up to 6000 DPI and supports macros.

Compare Kone[+] Max to Kone XTD:

Some of you may read this review to compare the Kone[+] Max to the Kone XTD. At the time of writing this review, I am in Kuwait on a military deployment. So I was unable to see either product in person before purchase. I read/watched several reviews of both the Kone[+] and the Kone XTD while researching my purchase. The most obvious difference I found is the size of the two mouses. The Kone XTD is a bit smaller, and probably a better choice for claw style gamers. Other than that, the mouses are physically the same. However, the Kone XTD has a more robust driver/software suite; mostly additional macro support. Unless you plan to use your mouse for MMO gaming or photo/graphics editing the additional features will likely go unused.

Mouse size/weight and cable length:

I have fairly large hands and use a palm/fingertip style grip. I prefer a large mouse. I have previously owned a Logitech MX1000 and a Razor DeathAdder. The Kone[+] is about the same size as the DeathAdder; though slightly taller. I would prefer the thumb buttons to be forward slightly, but that is a minor complaint.

I happen to like using gaming mice on my mac, as they tend to be wired and I hate having to rely on batteries, even if I don't use gaming mice for gaming. Furthermore, gaming mice have decent resolution and accuracy, which makes them appropriate to use for graphic design and everyday computing.

I loved this mouse, until the scroll wheel stopped responding. That's the Achilles heel of this mouse. It's scroll wheel sucks and is a deal breaker as far as I am concerned, especially once it stopped working for me after a few weeks of use.

Another con, lack of native hardware support on Mac, which means that while the mouse works fine, users will not have control over the LED colors, etc... if using a Mac.

I am using a Sharkoon DarkGlider mouse now, which seems to very comparable, but it doesn't have any scroll wheel issues. I'd go with the Sharkoon instead of this crap.
