If you are in to producing/engineering and want a super mean condensor mic without spending alot of cash, this is one to get; very cheap with an extremely expensive sound. It does not have any polar switches or any built in eq's, but most all DAW's do have eq's and phase reverse abilities. Plus, its better to cut freq's that are there, then to try and boost freq's that aren't there; the latter is impossible actually. I'm telling you, don't let the price tag throw you off; this baby makes everything sound good. I've used it on vocals, acoustic guitars, drums as an overhead/ride mic as well as a room mic for ambience. I also have a matched pair of NT 5's that are also absolutely amazing. Rode is a great Australian company that makes amazing mics with a 10 year warranty; yep...10 years. Get one, you won't be dissapointed. Remember though, bad acoustics = bad recording sound.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Mic, June 30, 2008

Great for vocals, acoustic guitars, pianos
and other strings. Don't know about bowed
strings but I imagine it would work out fine.
Very versatile, True and accurate recording.
Won't give your voice an unnatural color.
NT2 has more features for a bit more cost
I think I might have gone with that if I had
done more homework.

5.0 out of 5 stars I made the best choice with my Rode NT1A microphone, December 9, 2010

After a long research for a mic with this warm firm old style powerful sounding, I decided to order the Roden NT1A mic. There was very few videos and reviews about it, so I was scared. Originally a mic like this costs $1000 and up. The best mics are $6000. This one though is only $220 but let me tell you that It captures sound like a $6000 mic. I love it, it makes my voice sound magical. It gives it a special vibration that pleasures the year. This mic is a professional studio mic that I also use for my movies now to capture the actors speech. Let me tell that it works better than any atmosphere mic I've used for my previous film. No extra unwanted noise. Its the best mic on the market, very popular among filmmakers and studio vocals and instrumental capturing. Number one in radio broadcasting. This is what you want, this is what you need. I am an independent artist and my review is personal and real, I am not payed to express positive thoughts, so you are safe relying on my words here.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nothing new here, July 1, 2011

This is the best sounding mic I've used. Love it! Tonally it compares very well with the U87! Its response is extended on both sides and has a very useable pattern for studio work. The extremely low noise is just another benefit especially when doing quiet instruments. That's not to mention the design and execution of the shock mount, pop filter, and mic sock--all excellent! You can leave it on the stand and just cover it with the sock.

All in all it's just a great system/mic that could use better packaging if you will be traveling with it at all. It seems a little on the light side compared to other high quality condenser mics, but still seems fairly rugged. Just my impression. For this price and it's intended use it's just a crazy good mic. I wouldn't get to rough with it, but I certainly try to be kind to all my equipment. Maybe it wouldn't survive a drop/fall like a Neumann...? None the less, just buy 20 of them and you're still ahead.
