This is the kind of book where I stopped reading it for a day or so as it neared the end. I just wanted it to keep going. Like the other reviewers I am thrilled that there might be sequels. I felt as it I was in the slipstream with the characters moving easily between one time and another. It was romantic, spellbinding, educational and inventive. Imagine.....

An imaginative and fun easy read,
This review is from: ROMANCING THE RAVEN (Hardcover)
Interesting how Rob MacGregor ties it altogether to keep you curious as to how will it turn out. It was a must get back to read more kind of book for me. It flowed smoothly and the descriptions brought visions to mind of actually being there with the characters.
MacGregor's ingenuity and imagination are displayed in this easy and fun to read story. He has left the door open to continue with sequels that can further tantalize our imaginations and let us get away from our everyday realities.

Rob MacGregor has done an exceptional job weaving a mysterious, romantic and ingenious tale of time travel involving Edgar Allen Poe and a modern-day character aptly called "Destiny."

Rob has delivered a great book in Romancing the Raven! After waiting years since its conception, I was thrilled to finally open this tome to the story of a time travelling Edgar Allen Poe and his Destiny.
MacGregor weaves early history of New York City with the modern age as the story's main character, Destiny, takes us on a journey with America's most prolific writer, Edgar Allen Poe. We learn so much about the young Poe and his impact on today's culture through MacGregor's words and are able to imagine throughout the book how that extraordinary writer might perceive the 21st century. A great read and awesome adventure - highly recommended to all. I should say that another work like this is likely to be, nevermore.

A brilliant tale for a midnight dreary... I couldn't put it down!,
This review is from: ROMANCING THE RAVEN (Hardcover)
Romancing the Raven is an inspired and thought-provoking time-travel story about Edgar Allan Poe, who crosses paths with Destiny Douglas, a 21st century Goth girl with an obsession for the famed poet. Rob MacGregor brings his uniquely imaginative talents to an intriguing pseudo-fictional tale of conspiracy in which Poe is unwittingly drawn into a scandal to assasinate President Andrew Jackson. Without Destiny's intervention, the young writer's career will become one of infamy under the spell of a cunning hypnotist with his own dark agenda.
From the cold nights of West Point in the winter of 1831 to the streets of New York City, readers will delight in following Poe's fantastic (and often funny) journey as the 18th-century man finds himself inexplicably trapped in a world that defies comprehension, and turns his provincial ideals on end. The literary master's fate hangs in the balance as Destiny struggles to keep her protege from discovering the truth of his reknowned life, and return him to the path of immortality which he is destined to achieve. Extensively researched, and rich with historical detail and surprising plot twists, Raven seamlessly blurs the line between fact and fiction. The haunting conclusion will have even the most casual reader grabbing a volume of Poe to find the clues of Destiny's journey. Did it really happen? Could it? Pick up Romancing the Raven and find out for yourself! |
