Season Two of "Room 222" is just as good as Season One, and that's really saying something. Along with "The White Shadow," this is the best high school series ever produced. As with Shout Factory's Season One set, there is only one real debit: The rotten prints. The DVDs of contemporaneous series such as "The Partridge Family" and "The Brady Bunch" offer pristine prints. Just why better prints of "Room 222" couldn't be located is a mystery. Still, it's a wonderful show, and it's great to see it again...By the way, don't bother trying to find Season Two in any retail store. It's only being sold online.

This review is from: ROOM 222 SEASON 2 DVD (DVD)
I have purchased Room 222 Seasons 1 and 2, and I really would like to get Season 3 on DVD. If you love this show as much as I do, contact Shout Factory at their website and ask them for Season 3.

Grew up watching this series. I have always liked it a lot. It's a shame you have to wait so long in between series.

Thank's to many reviewers of season 1, who had to complain about the picture quality not being 100% perfect ruined any future releases.
Sales were bad so Shout did season 2 direct from shout factory only and word is no plans for anymore seasons to be released. I got season 1 and no it was not digitally remastered but it was fine and was thankful the show got to dvd in the 1st place. I hope fans ignore the bad reviews and buy season 1 and 2 out now and then maybe they will rethink and put the remaining seasons out, if not we may never see this show again. I plan to also get season 2 as well. Season 1 was very good and the picture quality was fine for a show this old. This show was never in syndacation like The Brady Bunch, so Im sure they could only restore it to the best they could.

The whole second season was just a good as the first season. All the original cast is back. They have some now famous stars as guests on the show which is fun to see. Recommend to buy.

In its initial season, "Room 222" garnered attention for tackling socially relevant issues in the setting of a racially diverse Los Angeles high school. In its sophomore (1970-71) season, the show's 26 episodes follow history teacher Pete Dixon (Lloyd Haynes), guidance counselor Liz McIntyre (Denise Nicholas), principal Seymour Kaufman (Michael Constantine), and English teacher Alice Johnson (Karen Valentine) as they attempt to make a positive difference in the students' lives.
Season Two had episodes on topics that were at the forefront in the early Seventies such racial issues, women's lib, drugs, and challenges to authority and tradition, but other episodes covered constants in teenage life such as the difficulties that different types of students have getting along, school elections, cheating, bullying, envy, teenage marriages and crushes, and rivalries between high schools. Perhaps the episode that seems most jarring from the standpoint of today is the one in which Mr. Dixon teaches about Lincoln by encouraging his students to take nothing at face value, examine all facts, and then come to their own conclusion--as a result of this he encounters opposition from a conservative. In 2011, we live in a country where liberals have nothing to fear when they go to conservative college campuses, but conservatives have to travel with bodyguards, are shouted down, encounter draconian campus speech codes, and are vastly more likely to have their cars keyed; where Republicans hold presidential debates on MSNBC but Democrats refuse to do so on Fox News; and where liberals would shut down talk radio and Fox News in a heartbeat if they could get away with it, but no conservative would dream of muzzling any left-wing news outlet. It was simply a hoot and a half from the standpoint of today to see the episode on Lincoln portray conservatism as the authoritarian ideology and to see liberalism portrayed as the ideology of open and free inquiry. Some complain about the picture quality on this DVD set, but I didn't see it as a big issue. I didn't agree with every position that "Room 222" took, but the main characters are all likable and the show is a thought-provoking, engaging high school drama that is well worth the time spent watching it. |
