We have had root problems and blocking of the 20-year old 4-inch PVC drain pipes resulting from the large oak trees in our yard. After paying a plumber to perform roto-rooter type service ($200) to clear the drain line, the plumber recommended we use the root-x product ($25) once a year to keep the drain lines open, Have used this product for past 3 years with no recurring drain problems - works exactly as described. If you can follow directions, and pour a dry powder into the drain plug or even down your toilet, you can easily use this product.

Root killers kill roots, they don't remove them from the line. If you expect this product to "BURN OFF" the roots and have nothing remaining, you will be sadly mistaken. It kills the roots. Period. If your lines are clogged with roots, you have to kill them, AND clear the line with a mechanical snake or sewer-rooter. Yes, this is a professional product and must be used with care. If you clear the line and then use it regularly, it WILL keep roots from blocking your line again.

The bad reviews are likely from people who don't understand it or didn't use it correctly.

So first you must realize that you have a problem that Rootx can only control and not fix. And that is a crack in your sewer line where roots are going to seek water. I had to have a plumber come out replace a section of pipe with a large root and then clear out the rest of the roots. He recommended that I could either pay him every year to come out at clean the line or use Rootx. That was 5 years ago. I haven't seen the plumber since. Once a year I treat the pipe. My sewer runs under a very large elm tree and Root-X seems to keep the line clean.

Word of warning the stuff can really foam up. I put it in the toilet one year and it expanded out before I could get it flushed down. I suggest putting it either in the vent pipe on the roof if you must or better in a cleanout in the yard. Then follow that up with water to activate it.

I like the product but the price charged here is about double the price elsewhere. I paid about $55 (including shipping) for what I thought was a 4 lb. canister. When it arrived, it was a 2 lb. canister. I went back and checked and saw it was advertised as a 2 lb. so the fault lies with me. I assumed by the price that it is was 4 lbs. Most of the sellers on ebay charge around $57-58, shipping included, for 4 lbs. When I saw this price, I made the mistake. My advice - get your rootx on ebay. It has worked well for us after about 3-4 straight years of having a plumber out 2 times a year to clean out the lines at $199 a pop, we haven't had to clean them out since we started using rootx.

Had a plumber in and he ran a snake to find roots on the end of his snake when he brought it back up. He suggested ROOTX and I think it worked just fine.

When you purchase this product, buy the funnel that goes with it! It helps a great deal.

This is the best price I found for Root X online. Too soon to say if it works: we'll have to see if the line backs up in six months.

If you read the instructions for use on the Root X website, there is supposed to be a spout that screws into the container, that you use for both mixing and pouring the Root X into your drain system. This package does not include the spout.

Without it, I tried to rig something up with an old soda bottle, and ended up spilling about 1/4 to 1/2 of the product on my basement floor. I guess you get what you pay for.

The arrival time was outstanding however as we were reading the instructions we realized a major component was missing.
It was called the Mixing funnel/ applicator. So as far as we know this is necessary in order to mix the product correctly.

It was recommended to me from the plumber who snaled my sewer line after it was backing up because the roots from the brush were clogging the line. Waiting to see results. I did get it delivered within the time specified, but I did find it a bit expensive. Also, the instructions on using the cap/ funnel were not clear

I don't know if this worked or not. I followed the instructions but the flow of my drains and the commode does not seem to have improved.

The most important part of this review you should leave with is: Read the container's warnings VERY carefully BEFORE you open it. This stuff is very SERIOUS !!!!!!!! You should have protective clothing, a serious breathing apparatus and goggles. You CANNOT breath it, you CANNOT get it in your eyes !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Personally: I feel this stuff is too serious to try this inexpensive fix that may yield margonal results as it did for me. Next time? I'll call a plumber and let then do whatever while I'm inside not risking my future quality of life.
