5.0 out of 5 stars If you've got the money, buy it., May 29, 2003
This review is from: RORX: The Tenth Annual Reggae On The Rocks - August 10, 1996 (Audio CD)
If you are a fan of roots reggae and are a fan of live reggae recordings, you will want this CD. The album is comprised of some of the greatest roots artist(s) ever: Burning Spear, Isreal Vibration, and Black Uhuru.(why they decided to put ONLY one Skatalites song on here, I don't know.) The sound quality of this live album is excellent, and the songs they chose for this ablum actually do the artists justice, unlike some other compilation type albums. considering most of these artists are quite a bit older than when they originally recorded these songs, they sound great. I don't need to say anything else, go get it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Must-have for serious roots fans, February 28, 2001

Burning Spear is at his best here - as the other reviewer mentioned, the horn section is tremendous! I hope his new band is as good as these guys were. Black Uhuru contributes a few great numbers, including a very short, upbeat "Solidarity." The surprise track for me was Isreal Vibrations' "Red Eyes." I didn't think too much of it upon first listen, but it has grown to be my single favorite track. Spear closes it off with a terrific, long version of "Happy Day." I highly recommend this CD.

This review is from: RORX: The Tenth Annual Reggae On The Rocks - August 10, 1996 (Audio CD)
This album is a magnificent display of live reggae. It features most of the classic reggae bands alive and performing today. It features live burning spear, perhaps the best live recording ever- The brass is tremendous, while there are several early tracks and one rare one at the end. Winston Rodney's voice is electrifying. It also features an astonishing version of The Skatalite's Guns of Navarone. It is truly great to hear these reggae musicians because as they get older, the chance to hear them live is dwindling. Perhaps a little of that live magic is caught on tape in this album. Check into it.
