Almost everything you could want,

RPG Maker will allow you to create almost anything you want, and it's amazingly easy to use for the most part. Characters, monsters, skills and field maps are surprisingly easy to grasp. The most complex parts of the game are probably dungeon creation and event/scenario creation. You WILL need to read the manuals (there are two) several times to get the hang of that, but once you do, you will be able to create almost anything your heart desires. Cutscenes, intro scenes, endings (in addition to being able to create ending scenes, the game allows you to set snapshots to be used as a backdrop for the credits), branching storylines or non-linear play - if you have the time and the determination, you can create literally anything in this game. However, the tilesets (the images you use to create dungeons) are very limited and almost entirely fantasy-based - creating an SF RPG here could be tough, since you can't create tilesets. In addition, the character graphics have the same bias .... Finally, the musical selections are adequate at best. The ability to import music and tilesets would have been a great addition. But those are relatively minor caveats, and RPG Maker is well worth getting if you want to make your own RPGs.

RPG MAker is an awesome game. Being able to create your own RPG with your own custom graphics, special affects, dungeons, maps, worlds, towns, and people is what makes this game so great,,One thing about it though is the fact that it takes a long time to master the creation skills, this is not for kids, too complicated! Not for someone who expects instant results!

Beware of the hideous limitations.,

Before you buy this game, ask yourself: why? If your only role-playing experience comes from playing videogames, what you will end up with is a mediocre flop, too much wasted time, and a disappointment. If you are an avid role-player (paper-and-pencil as well as console), writer, and creator, this may just be your chance to see how your favorite creation handles.Probably the only way to rate a monster like this is by analyzing its limitations and usability. IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR SOMETHING YOU CAN MASTER IN A COUPLE OF DAYS, CLOSE YOUR BROWSER BEFORE YOU GET ANY IDEAS ABOUT BUYING THIS ITEM. RPG Maker comes with TWO manuals, with a combined page count of one hundred pages, and even that is barely enough to cover the very basics of this software's mechanics. As the manuals are, they are barely legible and feature minimal graphics. There are no good walkthroughs on the Web to date. You're on your very own. As for the limitations: get Agetec's slogan out of your mind immediately! Imagination is by far not the only thing that limits your creativity! First of all, your creation must be at least somewhat fantasy-oriented, since all tile-sets, mosters, and pre-made characters are. In the battle engine creation, you are limited to creating spells and skills, and setting the numbers. Other than that, every single one of your RPG Maker creations will feature a run-of-the-mill, turn-based, simplistic battle engine. The graphics are beyond bad. They are pixilated, static, and bland, just like the ones in a Genesis RPG gone horribly awry. While the music is actually somewhat good, the sound effects are barely tolerable. You do not draw the overworld map. Instead you ASSEMBLE it from the random bits and pieces available. All of the overworld tiles are one color: sepia. Even the water. And unless you have a mouse, don't even think of using Anime Maker. If you think that the game's virtue is the freedom with which you can manage your plot, here's a small example of the extents you must go to to organize even a semblance of logic: opening a treasure chest. Easy, you think. Place a treasure chest, and you're done. No. First you must choose the type of chest, and specify how it looks open and closed. You must specify what item is inside (you create all items from scrath), what character gets the item (you create all characters from scratch), etc. You can imagine how much toil goes into creating switches (conditions). And, of course, you are always limited by the amount of space on your memory card. If so far I haven't managed to dissuade you from buying this game, if you have extraordinary patience, ingenuity, and perseverance, if you aren't afraid to get your hands dirty, RPG Maker is for you. Just in case, if you happen to master it, you may give yourself the title of grandmaster of role-playing.

RPG MAKER IS GREAT!,

First thing I want everyone to know, I am new to RPG games on the Playstation I have done games like MERP and got intrested. So I ordered this, and some others (Final Fantasy Anthology, VII & VIII) Let me tell you, if you have the patience for this game, Buy It, no question, The great idea of a "Maker" series failed at first with "Fighter Maker", don't let that guide you, this deystroys Fighter maker, not only in gameplay, but in structure. You can create a Serious, well-spent time RPG about some magical quest, or if your in a humorous mood, make one about school, fighting off evil P.E teachers & Lunch aids. Whether your new to RPGs (like me) or have Every RPG made you'll want to check this out, unless of course, you expect to get the full quality of the game in an hour, if you have time and patience, this is well worth the money.

Imagination comes to life,
This review is from: RPG Maker (Video Game)
How many of you have wanted to make you own RPG? Well Agetec thought that Fighter Maker would be able to simulate it. Well... many fans of fighters loved it, but it did not have really the true feeling of creation. You could customize moves and where the various 3D Models moved and such, but overall it did not have an impact on the whole genre. Well... Agetec has found the real way to do it. Combine all the abilities to set EVERYTHING (and not just the moves and movements like on Fighter Maker) You can even make your own graphics. But beware!!!! This game not only has an INCREDIBLY long learning curve but it takes a REALLY long time to make a high quality, SNES/Genesis quality RPG. You can do anything with a little elbow grease though, and you may want to wait until the release of the PS2 because they will have 8 mb memory cards for a lot of storage capacity. Then you thorough/obsessive compulsive guys that want to make 400 custom graphics, thousands of words, and tons of options, and many other things can make a SNES dream RPG! Not for kids! Too complex and difficult. Not for guys with jobs. Not for guys that have lives! This game takes up WAY to much time. That and the learning curve are the downside. This is much better than fighter maker, but for those of you that liked the amount of options on Fighter maker you will really be able to sink your teeth into RPG maker. (if you like RPGs) RPG fans, get this game, and make up a game of your own! Who knows, maybe someday all videogames will be made with engines like this one! It is a good introduction to overall creation of programs because you learn the general layout of games! Get this if you aspire to make an RPG or just learn about making a videogame!

When I first started up this game a few days ago on my ancient PlayStation, I figured it was going to be a high quality game. I was wrong. It is the best game I ever hope to play. You probably already know what this game is all about, (ie. "making an RPG"), so I won't go into all that. But here is the good and bad points about this game;Theres only about three things wrong with this game; 1)The Anime Maker (kinda like MicroSoft Paint) is mostly useless with the PlayStation controller if you don't get lotsa practice. 2)The graphics look like ther're from a Super Nintendo game. The sound isn't much beter. 3)What's with all the menues?!? There's about a billion of 'em. (That may be a good thing) There is only one reason you should buy this game; 1) Create your own video game. (In my opinion, this is the best idea ever!) In summary, RPG Maker is the most creative, rewarding, and entertaining game I have ever played. Get this game if you have any self respect. And if you don't, get it anyway!

At last! Like many of you video game frantics out there you have been praying, begging and hoping that someday, out of the blue someone will bring to you a thing that will allow you to make your own games. Well fellow believers the time has come. RPG maker is here! There is much rejoicing and much pain and suffering. Let me say this right off the bat. You will need a lot of time to make a game with RPG maker. That means you will nead about 1-2 months if you hope to create a game. But that does not involve the time neaded to understand how to use this thing. From the minute you boot it up. You will scratch your head raw in a effort to understand how to use RPG Maker. I spent who knows how many hours trying to figure out how to make levels, make spells, items etc. At one point I was so deppressed I gave up and did another game. But wait... 1 month after I got RPG Maker I Botted it up again and gave it another go. And low and behold, somehow everything fit togeather! At long last I finially understood everything, "so that s how the event thingy works, so thats how the monster edit goes!" were thoughts that flashed through my mind. I set to work making my very first game, Quest for Atlantis. 1 1/2 months later I finially finished it. It took aproximatly 2 hours per day, for 1 1/2 months to make a 1 hour game. But it has been worth it. It is impossible, to say in words, the thrill you get when you finially play your finished game for the first time. A game that YOU made. Music, levels, charachters were all made by YOU. I have also a tidbit of advice for you. DONT LOSE THE 2 MANUALS!! they will prove invaluble in the future. But they cant be good all the time. For instance I was trying to find a ship, one that I had made in the items section and I couldent find it. The manual only said when the logo for it was displayed. I finially found it by going to sample dungeon and going under "Other" but I am still trying to find the blimp. Where are you you stupid Blimp? Also forget about using the animie maker. Its impossible to use. RPG Maker is incredibly frustrating at first, But goes above and beyond the call of duty to reward those who stick with it. The good: you can make your own games! need I say more? Infinate replay value the bad: hard to use. Manuals can be superficial And the ugly: Incredibly hard to get the hang of.

I've used the PC rpgmakers and this one is better than all of them. Best thing of it is you can trade completed games with friends! Interface takes some time to learn, but the effort is well worth it if you like the Phantasy Star sorta rpg. BUY IT NOW!

The concept behind RPG Maker is simple: make your own RPGs, and then store them on memory cards and share them with your friends. Unfortunately, the execution leaves a lot to be desired - but it's still worth giving it a try.First off, while the Anime Maker (which lets you draw your own sprites, monsters, title screens, etc.) sounds good on paper, it's nigh-impossible, especially using the PlayStation controller. Things are easier if you have a mouse, but not by much. Stick to using the provided graphics - there are plenty of them, and you can spend your time designing your game. The game design part is actually very fun and interesting - though don't expect to create a game within a couple of days. It'll take weeks or months to make a decent-length game. The manuals don't begin to show the actual power of the program, so play around and experiment. The graphics are very primitive - while no one expected polygonal graphics and FMV, they would have looked mediocre back in 1992 on the Super NES. If you can get past that, though, there's a large variety of different graphics to use in making your game. If you're not willing to put some serious effort into learning the system and making your game, then this probably isn't for you. But if you've always wanted to be a game developer, give it a try.

RPG Maker-the ultimate time gobbler,

This is a great game. However, it is not for everybody. It is for people who are willing to sit down and spend hundreds of hours into making a game with subpar graphics and sound. However, even with the poor sound and graphics, you can make truly incredible games. Just owning it gives you free access to countless RPGs made by other people. The game runs on a suprisingly efficient engine, and if you are willing to put in the time, you can make almost anything. That anything does not include 3-D graphics, or award winning sound. You can however, make your own art and put it straight into the game. Unless you have a Playstation Mouse, you won't want to touch the art program. This game is perfect for RPG lovers, , creative people, aspiring video game designers, and people with a lot of time and patience. This game is not for: Casual RPGers, people who want to be pumping out Final Fantasies in half an hour, and people who think graphics and sound are everything. But if you are the right kind of person, then this is a game that you would pick to be the only game to play on a deserted island.
