Beautiful but not functional,

The box came and I was pleasantly suprised by the look and quality; however, when I tried to put the cards inside seperated by card guides (i.e. tabs that say beef, chicken, etc.), the box wouldn't close because it isn't tall enough. The amazon description says that the box is 5 inches tall but it very clearly says on the actual box that it is only 4 1/2" tall. That extra half inch makes a huge difference! I am going to have to return it...arghh!

Great quality, but not deep enough,

This bamboo box is great quality and I am very happy with the workmanship. I should have taken the advice of the person who said that it was not tall enough to hold tabs between the recipes. I wanted to use the box to organize a small number of photos. If anything higher than 4" is put in the box, the lid will not close. I was disappointed that I could not use the box for the purpose I intended it for. If you want any size tabs between recipes, this box will not work.

This is a lovely box, if you don't need to fill it with recipes. When I put in the 4x6 cards and dividers, the lid wouldn't close. So I took out the dividers, and if the box is full with cards, it STILL won't close. It will only close if the cards are leaning back. Such a shame, because the bamboo is beautiful and nicely finished.

Beautiful and Sturdy Recipe Box,

I received my recipe box today and I was very pleasantly surprised. Mine came from [...] and was shipped within hours of my ordering it. I received it just three days after I ordered it. It came in a box that obviously got dented quite a bit through the shipping process, but kitchenworks packaged the box so well, not a dent or scratch on the box's packaging occured. The box is made out of bamboo and the lid is fully hinged with barely noticeable hinges The wood is finely smoothed and finished both inside and out. It took me ages to locate a box I liked (I wanted one I could decorate myself) and I was a tad nervous ordering from a company I had never dealt with before. I wholeheartedly give this box and [...] 5 stars. Wish I could give them both 10 stars.

Beautiful box ! Card dividers are too tall for the cards had to cut them down to close the lid.

Beautiful but Broken,

So upset! This box is beautiful and simple. However, when we pulled it out of the box it fell apart. All four sides, top and bottom collapsed. It seems like there wasn't the proper amount of adhesive or maybe the cold weather compromised it. If it were for me, I would just put some gorilla glue on it and use it anyway, I really like this little box. I bought this for my Mom, she is not a big cook but lately has been collecting recipes and cooking more. I figured this would be perfect for her. Apparently she doesn't like the box style, she wants her cards to sit up. I tried to explain, once she gets a bunch of recipes in it, they will stand up. She just shook her head. We will be returning this and I will be looking for something else. Or maybe this can be an early bday present for me! LoL

Not functional,

Box had a seam crack and it was not tall enough for cards to stand upright like they would with a semi full recipe box.

They're ok, if you can get them in one piece and keep them in one piece. We initially bought 2 and had to send one of them back twice. They just aren't put together very well.

The description says it takes 3x5 cards, or smaller, but really it can handle a 4x6, or even larger than that. 3x5 cards are dwarfed by the size of this thing. It's more suitable for a sandwich, bag of chips, and a can of soda in my opinion, as it's about the size of a lunchbox. The bamboo doesn't match any of the bamboo (cutting boards, napkin holder, paper towel dispenser etc) in my kitchen, either. Overall, the missus didn't approve, so I returned it. Had high hopes despite all the negative reviews already here.

Attractive but fragile; photo misleading as to card fit,

The box is attractive but not sturdy, as it is simply glued together. Mine fell apart but I was able to reglue the pieces. It's stuck together since, but now it's a bit crooked. For the price, I expected better.People are complaining about it not being big enough for their 4 x 6 inch recipe cards when it says right in the description that it is for 3 x 5 inch OR SMALLER cards. When you DO use 3 x 5 inch index cards, the coordinating tab dividers fit fine. Oddly enough, despite the description indicating the use of no bigger than 3.5 x 5 inch cards, the photo provided must use 4 x 6 inch cards; the cards fill the width of the box, plus the cards protrude from the bottom. My 3 x 5 inch cards fit flush with the top edge of the base, and if you store the cards front to back (as shown in the photo) you'll actually be left with about 1 1/4" extra space to the side. I still chose to put the cards front to back and filled the gap with extra cards stacked left to right (apparently how one is supposed to store them) so things wouldn't slide around. In summary, this is a fragile but attractive box for storing 3 x 5 inch index/recipe cards. If you buy one, prepare for the need to reglue it at some point. The manufacturer should consider the use of a few nails to help keep it together. |
