Excellent countertop compost pail,

An attractive countertop collection pail for those kitchen scraps that would otherwise be trashed. Filters in the lid eliminate any odors even if the pail hasn't been emptied in awhile. The 1/2 gallon size is adequate for several days accumulation for us, and when the pail is full the design makes it easy to transport to the main compost bin outside. Filters are a little on the expensive side but they are washable and reusable. We have had the unit for almost a month and have not needed to replace the filter. I expect each filter will last for several months.

I love this little silver bucket. It looks good on my counter next to the sink. It's easy to clean and with just a paper towel I can make it shine. I would say that if you do a lot of cooking it could be on the small side for you. We need to dump it every other day, not the week that it claims. We live in the frozen north so I compost in just the summer and fall when all the fresh stuff is out. I do love it and many of my friends have seen it and ordered one too.

This pail is a good size, doesn't chip, isn't heavy, and looks good to boot. Works very well.

It wasn't easy to find a 1/2-gallon compost pail; most are larger capacity and therefore larger size. The average family will find this holds almost a week's worth of compostables - and the charcoal filter (washable) actually does eliminate odors. It's also attractive and unobtrusive, and cleans easily.
And if you've had problems with fruit flies, the lid design keeps them out; the filter compartment causes the lid to fit inside the bucket rather than just sitting on top. The fit is snug enough to keep the bugs out, yet is easy to lift off with one hand. Addendum, May 2010: Be sure to check, now and then, that the screws holding on the handle are tight. I lost one, but fortunately, the manufacturer sent a replacement upon request, at no charge. Now that's customer service!

If you're in need of a temporary holding container that will be emptied into an outdoor composter daily or nearly so, you're in business with this item. If you won't be emptying it that frequently or want to let the contents get a little juicy before transferring to an indoor worm composter, avoid this item. The charcoal mesh lid liner is perfect egg-laying habitat for fruit flies. Unless you're a geneticist hoping to produce multiple generations of flies per month, it's unlikely you'll appreciate this feature.

I had been using a one quart yogurt tub to collect and empty my compostables daily. This is a great size, unobtrusive on my counter. It holds enough for several day of composting with no smell. Lid fits well. No fruit flies or ants so far Have had for about a week.

Looks great on my counter. Hold about 3-4 days worth of material of a 2 person's household.
Very happy with the purchase. Serves its purpose well - no smell, no bugs! Would buy again.

We empty this approx every 2-3 days. (Who'd want the scraps lying around longer than that?) It's the perfect size for the counter top - attractive and not imposing in our fairly small kitchen. We have not encountered bad smells or flies. The lid is secure, the filter works. It cleans up beautifully and so far not a hint of rust (even though we put wet coffee grinds in there every day). Would definitely recommend.

Great product. The half-gallon size fits nicely on the kitchen counter and holds several days' coffee grounds and kitchen scraps. It looks infinitely nicer and is much easier to clean than the yogurt containers that used to sit in that spot, and the odor control works like a charm.
