4.0 out of 5 stars If you love soft-boiled eggs you really should consider this item
Customer Video Review     Length:: 2:01 Mins
I really enjoy soft-boiled eggs. For me it evokes a simpler time when men sat at the breakfast table in their suits & ties and delicately dipped toast into the soft, yellow center of a perfectly made soft-boiled egg. This was before the time when eating an Egg McSomething on the run became popular. Maybe I only remember this from watching Cary...

1.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't work and it hurts!
This was a waste of money. It is poorly designed and almost impossible to hold comfortably at any angle that will "top" the egg. The finger holes are too small (and I am a small handed woman) and they are sharp, stamped metal that hurts when pressure is applied to make the scissor action happen. The teeth that are supposed to cut the egg are not sharp enough to do so...

Maybe I only remember this from watching Cary Grant in movies of the 40's, but to me it represents more than a simple dish. A soft-boiled egg is a celebration of eating as an art form.

It is entirely possible to remove the top of a soft-boiled egg with a knife and I have done this many times. However, this gadget allows me to prepare my egg quickly and consistently. Some of the time the top portion of the egg comes off with the shell, other times (as in this video) I need to remove the top of the egg with a knife in order to show off the golden liquid center. I hope that you enjoy this short, informal, video review.

This was a waste of money. It is poorly designed and almost impossible to hold comfortably at any angle that will "top" the egg. The finger holes are too small (and I am a small handed woman) and they are sharp, stamped metal that hurts when pressure is applied to make the scissor action happen. The teeth that are supposed to cut the egg are not sharp enough to do so and essentially just mangle it. Plus the hole that the top of the egg goes through is so small that even the small end of the egg only gets a small amount of its top mangled off. The resulting hole is not big enough to use even a small egg spoon in to eat the egg. Mine is going in the trash because it will never be used. It is actually unusable and it is just taking up space in the drawer. Not the vendor's fault, just a horribly, poorly designed product.

4.0 out of 5 stars Reccommend it with reservations, July 12, 2007

I would love to have given it a 5 but didn't due to the fact that if your eggs have a thin shell (Free Roaming Eggs, Organic Eggs)it tends to crush the top of the egg rather than cut it clean and you have to be careful some of the thin shell doesn't get into the egg. The store brands, I believe have thicker shells and works well on those. I still use it for the thinner egg shell but am careful.

It works fine as long as you hold your egg firmly and apply a fair bit of pressure while twisting upwards. I always use it with soft boiled eggs and am happy with it. One star off because the finger slots are a little sharp inside.

1.0 out of 5 stars A big waste of money, April 5, 2008

I had high hopes for this product and all it did was mangle the egg. The hole is too small to work on large eggs and I am sure that extra large would be out of the question. It does not cleanly slice/cut off the top of the egg as promised. It just sort of mushes it up and gets shell in the egg. There is no padding on the finger holes and they cut into your fingers when you try to use it. I would never buy one again. I have thrown mine away.

3.0 out of 5 stars Egg Decapper, September 12, 2007

It works well enough as advertised. My problem is with any large + egg it's hard to fit the end of the egg into the topper, and after de-capping you need a very small spoon to get into the egg.

This is a good egg cutter. Two thing I would want to work better: The topper is not large enough to handle large ended eggs. Also- it cuts a ragged end, which leaves egg shells everywhere including in the egg. It is durable...It has already cut well over 100 eggs and is still going strong!

I have changed to eating my breakfast eggs from the shell held in an egg cup in order to remove all oil that a frying pan would add.

I really need the function of this device, but the hole into which you have to place a boiled egg is just too small for the large and extra large eggs I like to have. Maybe it would work for small eggs, but why not make it flexible for all sized eggs. I still use it, but am never happy with the job it does, as the shells are very messy, and not clean cut.

I had to use this a while before I started getting the knack of it. I now seem to be able to use it the way it is suppose to be used.
