You'll like this mortar and pestle if you just plan to use it in the kitchen or for making herbal remedies. Be sure not to use acidic things like vinegar or lemon juice in anything made out of marble, such as this, or it will cause it to erode.

The only complaints about this are that the felt pad on the bottom of the mortar will come off after a few washings. Also, don't use this with anything too hard -- it won't damage the mortar or pestle, but things like peppercorns aren't actually going to get crushed. They'll just pop out of the mortar when you try and smash them.

Over time, the smooth grey marble at the bottom of the pestle and on the grinding surface of the mortar will wear away and look whitish. That's to be expected, and it will not mess up your ability to grind things in it. In fact, it will probably grind things better at that point.

Final Verdict: A great value for $15-20. I would recommend this to a friend.

Contrary to what a previous reviewer stated, crushing peppercorns was the first thing I did with this baby and it worked completely fine. I put a handful in, mixed it around, and BAM - perfectly crushed peppercorns. It showed up on time and intact. To to make a Panang Curry Paste!

My only complaint about this was the packaging. Seriously, do I really need it to be shipped in a box that could easily have accommodated four of these things?

This is a great size for grinding fresh or dried herbs. A bit pricey but worth the extra money.

I use my mortar a lot. Easy to clean but the scents stay with it for a while... esp garlic! A good buy overall.

I really like the way it was made. It's very heavy, good quality and it works well. It small but a good size for me because all I need it for is my vitamins :)

I got this for my husband who is a wonderful cook. He said it brings out the best in the flavor when you use this to mix the herbs. Not only that, this was very attractive to the eye with its gray marble color, and the marble will last a very long time, considering you take great care of it. Dont put it in dishwasher, its best to hand wash it. Put it in a place where it will not break or fall. It was a great purchase and I love it. This item is beautiful and useful for good cooks as well as for amateurs who wish to learn to cook.

Product was received in great condition. My father-in-law loved this simple gift so much. It is a good quality stone and smooth shape.

This is a great medium sized mortar and pestle. It is well made and grinds things efficiently. It is pretty enough to display in your kitchen at all times.

Received the Mortar and Pestle in perfect condition. No chips or cracks. Very nice solid piece of Marble.

This is an absolutely BEAUTIFUL set that I am very pleased with. It was given to me as a christmas gift and when I saw what it was I was honestly a bit worried at first. From an aesthetic perspective, the box didn't seem to make it look as nice as it really was. Because it was made of marble I knew however that it would do a fine job. I opened the box and it was simply perfect.

The marble was polished and carved so perfectly that I couldn't ask for a better medium sized mortar and pestle. It is a beautiful dark grey and remarkably heavy. It grinds with ease and the aromas released from herbs and spices are divine. I strongly recommend this product as both a functional utensil and a showpiece for the kitchen.
