5.0 out of 5 stars Love this
Bought this to replace the ceramic one I had that was broken about a month after I bought it. Like this very much, nice size, easy to use as the top is just tight enough to remove easily but not let odors out. Cheaper than I could find in the stores.

This canister looks good on the counter but unless it's emptied every day it will begin to smell. Also, we have noticed a major fruit fly problem. We opted for the larger container and we fill it up quickly (family of 4). A previous reviewer suggested putting the container in the fridge to combat the fruit fly problem but even with a big sub zero fridge our canister...

We opted for the larger container and we fill it up quickly (family of 4). A previous reviewer suggested putting the container in the fridge to combat the fruit fly problem but even with a big sub zero fridge our canister won't fit. So maybe go for the smaller size and stick it in the fridge, just empty it out more often.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent way station, January 11, 2012
This review is from: RSVP Stainless Steel Compost Pail with Extra Filter (Kitchen)
I bought this from a neighborhood store for about the same price as advertised on Amazon, with the added benefit of being able to check it out before buying it. Sometimes paying the sales tax is a minor burden worth bearing.

The pail itself has a very nice finish on it, "pretty" as one reviewer remarked. The complaint that mold started to form in short order seems a little odd. I've used it every day, not emptying it -about 5 days for a small family of 3- since the purchase, and although not full there is no sign at all of mold. But then again, so what? It's a temporary compost material keeper (soon to be rotting food, get it?), NOT a composter.

There is no odor at all, although even the odor from our now broken Norpro ceramic compost pail was minimal. When we could detect it at all, we emptied it. We use it for small amounts of leftover coffee, coffee grounds and filters, tea bags, fruit and peelings, eggshells, plain mashed potatoes, vegetable remains after cutting or slicing, really a host of things that used to go into the garbage. Now it all goes into the composter, outside.

Fruit flies were a tolerable occurence with our old Nopro ceramic compost pail, but again, so what? Empty it a little more often, and rinse it out. Haven't seen any with this one yet, and we always have some fruit and veggies on the counter. The recommendation to store this, or a smaller version, in the refrigerator to avoid a few fruit flies doesn't sound too well thought out.

All in all, this is an easily cleanable, almost unbreakable, high quality compost keeper for countertop use.

I ordered the standard size, and I was a bit concerned that it may be too small, but it is perfect. I have been using it for over a month. I'll leave scraps in it for a few days, and I haven't noticed an oder at all. The charcoal filter is great. I would definitely recommend this, and will be purchasing more as gifts.

Over the past few years I have done more and more gardening. Wanting more compost I purchased this, however I have had better luck with a plastic ice cream tub with a paper towell on the bottom. The pail seemed to call the fruit flies and with in 24hrs. mold would start growing and the oder was not the best. Save yourself some money or put it towards a worm factory. Now that was a great purchase! Look it up.....

5.0 out of 5 stars handsome counter composter, January 2, 2011

This shiny can, smaller than the average food processor, sits neatly on the counter and keeps a lot of garbage out of your garbage pail. Put the vegie peelings etc. in this can and dump it in your compost outside when it gets full (it will already have started to break down, unless you do it almost every day). With the filters (which last well, and are easily purchased from local "kitchen" stores) there is no smell and no flies around the container. Where I live, the garbage collection service provides a special container for "organic waste" which the county then composts. When my own compost heap isn't working that well, or I'm not keeping up, I put the stuff from here into that container. Great product (and people I've given it to are enthusiastic).

This product seemed to be a durable way to store kitchen scraps. It has many downsides. One- it is not easy to empty.Two- the instructions are not clear and minimal. Three- no alternative methods of usage. Not worth the money in my estimation!!!!The manufacturer could have a great product with some work.

This compost pail is working out well so far. It blends in well in my stainless steel kitchen and looks nice on the counter. There's been zero smell so far. The only thing I wish it had was a built in plastic liner pail that I could easily lift out. I ended up buying a plastic jar that fit inside this pail just so, because I figured the plastic would be easier to rinse out every time I dumped more scraps out in the composter. It was also nice that I got 3 sets of filters with my pail, so those will last me a while. I'd recommend this pail if you are looking for something that holds in odors well and looks nice on the counter.

5.0 out of 5 stars great table top composter!, February 28, 2010
This review is from: RSVP Stainless Steel Compost Pail with Extra Filter (Kitchen)
I bought this composter several months ago and am very happy with it. It's easy to clean, durable, has no odor (when you change the filters every few months), and holds a fair amount of kitchen waste. I like the size as well - it is actually attractive sitting next to my stainless steel sink! A good value for sure.
