They work well with organic or any type loose tea leaves.
Jennifer L. Louden
This is great for larger tea leaves but not small as they slip thru the edges and holes and end up floating about in your tea cup.
Zavi Rasan
I haven't had much tea escaping the spoon, but, weirdly, it doesn't seem to expand the way you see in a tea ball.

This is a good product if used correctly. First of all, it holds just enough loose tea leaves to make an 8-ounce cup of tea or smaller. If you want a product that will make good, strong tea in a 12- or 20-ounce cup, buy a mesh infuser spoon or a mesh infuser ball, they usually have a larger capacity.
Second of all, it is important to not overfill the spoon with tea -- don't just jab it blindly into your tea canister open and pull it out closed. Squeeze open the spoon and use it to scoop out one side level, not heaping, with tea leaves. This is important because the leaves need room to expand once they're in hot water (if you have stuffed the infuser spoon with tea, the pressure of the expanding leaves will push open the spoon and release loose tea leaves into your cup). When you have a level spoonful on one side, you can release to close the spoon.
Third, once the spoon is closed, tap it gently on the edge of your tea canister to release loose leaves that are stuck between the spoon halves. This will also minimize the amount of leaves that escape into your brew. Because of the size of the holes in this spoon infuser, you will inevitably end up with some crumbs of tea leaves in your cup. If you will be annoyed by this, you should instead purchase a mesh infuser or tea pockets (disposable tea filter bags that you fill yourself).
I love making and drinking tea, and I find this infuser spoon to be more elegant than mesh tea balls, more practical than decorative tea balls, more eco-friendly than DIY teabags, and more convenient than brewing up an entire pot when I'm taking a tea break.

This gadget is great for a single cup of loose tea but I found it's also really handy for shaking powdered sugar over treats!

I ordered these tea infusers for favors for a bridal shower tea party I was co-hosting. The infusers were very cute, and worked perfectly with the theme. They didn't feel the sturdiest, but they were very good for the price. I kept a favor for myself and used it the other day, and it worked perfectly with loose tea. Would recommend if you're looking for a tea infuser that won't last forever, but gets a good bang for the buck!

For those of us who find more flavor in loose tea rather then tea bags this is the perfect product. Easy to use. You wouldn't believe how hard it is to find this product. I love it.

If you are using large leaf tea this is probably fine, but the finer tea will slip right through the holes and the gaps between the halves.

This spoon is perfect for a single cup of tea, which is what I wanted. It's easy to clean and while a few leaves get loose, it's not a big deal and kind of unavoidable. It even arrived earlier than expected. I don't think it will last forever but it was cheap, so that's fine. Good so far!

This is an excellent tea strainer, as long as it's cleaned between uses. A hot water rinse should suffice, but don't let tea or sweetener dry on this strainer, or you'll have a hard time opening it. It doesn't grab the tea as well as I'd like, but if I manually load the tea in, it holds it well and allows plenty of room for steeping, while letting very little tea escape.

I think I like a ball better after having used this product, but nothing was wrong with it and worked fine.
