Wonderful piece of technology!. After I watched a couple of videos of how to set up and and use this recorder started to pick up voices right away. The scan is fast and the recording is very crisp and clear. If you have the active mic on be very careful as it is super sensitive. The menu's are easy to navigate. I have been using the wave pad sound editor with it and the results are very nice. I took it out a few days ago when I visited a local cemetery with a full spectrum video camera. Just letting the RT EVP run static and not asking questions I picked up quite a few voices. I have done a couple of live sessions and have had good results with answers. It uses 2 AAA batteries which have lasted me almost 5 hours. The ear buds that come with it are ok but I get better results from full headphones as they keep out more extraneous noise. Be aware your ears need to adjust to what your hearing. You may not pick up voices right away except on playback. It does take some time to get your ears adjusted to detect the voices out of the white noise. I have no regrets with this purchase. For investigating the paranormal I highly recommend this recorder. When you can hear responses to your questions during the session there is hardly any other way to go.
If you go to youtube and type in rt evp you will find tutorials on how to set up and use this device. It really is not as hard as it seems at first glance with the directions
I have owned this product for a couple of weeks now. I haven't had the chance to test it in the field yet, but I have had the chance to test it and play around with it. This item does cost more than any comparable digital recorder, but it also has many valuable features that are not on any other digital recorder that I could find. I can also say, that the recording quality is outstanding. I have a mid-high end sony digital recorder as well, and there is no question that the RT-EVP recorder has noticeably, much higher quality recording files. There was really no comparison between the two. The 3 built in mics are also very sensitive (there is a center, left and right mic). As far as the additional features on here, the real time playback is fantastic, though you do need to be using earphones to use the feature, to prevent a feedback loop I'm sure. The unit does also come with a set of ear buds, so it isn't a problem. The FM scanning mode (spirit box) also requires use of the headphone jack, because it uses this as an antenna. There is two different frequency ranges you can use for the scan, including a non U.S. broadcast range, and you can adjust the delay between scans. This functionality is also much higher quality than other units I have heard. There is very little, if any, squelching or noise between the channels. The menus have many options and features, allowing you to set up the unit for your exact needs. The only negative things I could find about the item, are that the function buttons to control the unit, can be a bit confusing at first, and does take some time to get familiar with. Also, as I previously mentioned, the unit does cost a lot more than other recorders, but all in all, I believe it is worth the higher cost. There are features on this recorder, that are found on no other and I have no doubt that this recorder is perfect for my needs.
Very sensitive recorder, but not easy to use. You need a good sound wave program to play back recordings and be able to listen to anything picked up in detail. We believed we captured a voice but not sure if it was something from outside or not...again very sensitive. We were able to pick up the tv from downstairs and a conversation from two other living people in our first recording attempt. Overall I think it's overpriced and for the cost, it should have came with a sound wave program.
Very good quality, but difficult to understand how to use. Three of us have read the directions and still don't understand completely. Used it for a ghost hunt at Waverly Hills and recorded several interesting voices. The readout very small and I must use a magnifyer to see clearly. I would purchase again, but am still hoping to find a techie to help me understand how to use all the features.
