5.0 out of 5 stars It, uh, charges batteries.
Not much I can say. It works just as advertised and it's a great price. This charger, and a couple of Chinese-clone batteries off eBay, have really made by Canon Vixia HF10 go a lot farther on a charge.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not for BP-819 (maybe not good for 809 either)
First of all, the label on the charger does not indicate it works for BP-819 (only BP 208, 214, 308, 316 and 809)) so the description here is not accurate. I tried it on both of my Canon BP-809 and 819 and this charger does not work well. The light will turn green but the battery is not anywhere close to fully charged when put back on the camcorder. ALso don't know if...

ALso don't know if it hurts the original Canon BP batteries for Vixia HF camcorders. I think I wasted 10 [...] on this.

I totally agree with previous 1-star reviewer. Does not charge the battery. Lights work and show the charge, but when you put the battery in the camera, zip... a minimal charge. You would do better to save your dough and buy the Canon battery charger. It is about 3 times as expensive, but at least it works!

1.0 out of 5 stars DOES NOT WORK, June 15, 2009
This review is from: RTC%2D173 Rapid Travel Charger for Canon BP808%2F BP809%2F BP819 (Electronics)
Like everyone else it seems - the lights light up, it SHOWS that it's charged, but it doesn't. A fantastic bargain IF IT WORKED.

The lights indicate that the battery is charged, but when you put it in the camera it still reads no charge.

Ruined a perfectly good BP-809 battery on the first "charge", you really do get what you pay for.

Got this to charge my BP809 and BP819 batteries for my Canon Vixia HG20 HD camcorder. OK, here's what happens: You put the battery in the charger. A green light indicates it is finished after some time. You put the battery in your camera, and it indicates that it is almost dead. Then, you charge the battery with the power supply that comes with the camera, and 5 minutes later the battery has a full charge. In summary, this charger sucks. If you go on a trip (which I just came back from) and you take only this charger, you will NOT be able to charge your batteries. Unless, of course, you take your power supply with you so you can "finish the job" so to speak. Very annoying. I wish I would've bought the Canon charger. Unfortunately, it's like elevendy billion dollars......

This product completely failed after sixty days and the manufacturer, Maximal Power, does not answer the phone and there is no way to return the product. A complete waste of money.

It may be inexpensive and allow you to charge from a car socket as well as a wall socket, but no matter how long the Canon BP-827 battery is charged, it will only reach 95%. The charging circuit shuts off, turns green and that's it. No more charging. That's probably better than overcharging and damaging the battery.

The HF-S100's internal charger will bring the battery up to an indicated 100%. And I suppose the much more expensive official Canon external charger will do the same.

The CG-800 is fairly compact, but if it doesn't charge the battery, what does that matter?
