Product Description

Size: 53-Gallon

Save on your water bills and reduce the stress on the municipal water treatment facilities with nature's solution--collect rainwater. When drought sets in and rain is short, rain collectors can provide that precious water you need for your lawn and garden. Made from tough and durable recycled plastic, the rain collector is created with a wood grain effect. The RTS rain collector has many unique features including a child safe lid that eliminates any worries of an unattended rain collector, mesh screen to keep out debris and insects, linkable to other rain barrels for increased capacity (linking kit sold separately) and a water tap (spigot) allowing for quick and easy access to your water supply. This rain collector can provide up to 53 gallons of pure unchlorinated water. During heavy rain falls, a typical roof can produce hundreds of gallons of water and by saving that water, you can reduce your average water usage. With those kinds of savings, this rain barrel can pay for itself in just a few seasons. Use with RTS Rain Water Collector Stand (sold separately, item 5511-000200-80-81). Measures 26-inch long x 26-inch wide x 36-inch high. Green.

well for me it came between this one and a rain barrel that 20 dollars more..... wish i would have gone with the other. dont get me wrong this does what it says.... what it dosent say is that the spigot feels like it going to snap everytime u touch it. going to have to replace it without a doubt. the barrel itself is super thin and a very flimsy plastic. reminds me of what the old school army men figures are made out of. maby worth 40 but not 70, no way!

The materials and construction seem fine. 25 gallon size may be a bit too small for some users. Installation of the bottom spigot requires some dexterity and perhaps imagination. I find that two people working together can get the job done.

This was my 2nd choice. The RTS 87 gallon Portobello Rain Collector is no longer sold. I guess it was worth the money ($80. free shipping) because it has the largest capacity that I could find without having to pay a lot more especially for shipping. However, don't bother trying to use the flimsy, plastic faucet it comes with. It doesn't even have enough thread to fit thru the barrel. I had to buy an extender (not sure what it's called) at Home Depot for about $3. I'll be putting on a metal faucet also (about $8). The overflow opening at top of barrel isn't very well designed either. It doesn't have thread like you would expect in order to attach a hose. Not sure how I am going to get that to work (duct tape?). Screen on top is small but easy to remove to clean. It is at least a couple inches too narrow to handle a normal size gutter drain pipe. So, during heavy rain a lot of the water runs down the sides. The faucet is positioned very near the bottom, which makes it easy to drain almost all the water out. But, you will have to either buy or make a stand for it to sit on. This will also make the water flow out better.

Go to your local hardware store, spend $20 on a rubber trash can and a spigot. Cut a hole in the top. You just saved $50. There is nothing special about this. It is a trash can with a faucet.

This rain collector works well and is just what it was advertised to be. I wish I had spent a little more money and got a larger one. I personally will not buy another barrel this small as it takes up the same amount of space as a large one and obviously holds less. I have removed it from my rain gutter and started adding a little composted manure to it and using it as a green tea barrel. It it well made and has held up through 3 blistering Texas summers and is still looking great.

The rain collector seems adequately well made. I have a drip-drip leak at the spigot that probably will clear up if I tighten the screws a bit. It is not super heavy duty, but sufficient for most use. The spigot is plastic (it looks like a metal spigot in the pictures, but isn't metal), and the spigot itself shuts off completely very easily.

Better than expected - for my purposes. Had to go to Home Depot to get two 75 cent 3/4 inch pieces so that the spigots would stay put. All good!
