Product Description

Amazon.com

The Cordless DUALphone is a cordless telephone that can be connected to both a standard telephone jack and the USB port of a PC. The display shows whether your friends who also use Skype are online. If they are, you simply have to press the appropriate green button and talk to them for free no matter where they are in the world. If their PC is switched off, or you want to call someone who doesn’t use Skype, you simply press the other green button and call via the standard telephone connection. Simply connect the DUALphone to the USB port on your PC and then install the software. The telephone is then ready to make and receive calls via SkypeIn/SkypeOut or the normal analog line.

You can dial and receive normal telephone calls or calls over the Internet or via SkypeOut or SkypeIn. There’s also no need to sit in front of your PC anymore to make free calls over the Internet. With the DUALphone, you can roam within a radius of up to 900' from the base station.

The handset includes a 160-entry telephone book, a 30-station call log and display-and-redial for your last 30 calls. A headset jack is built in, for comfortable hands-free use. There's a talk time of up to 6.5 hours, and standby of up to 100 hours. While it operates as a standard land-line with no more than a power adapter and telephone line, the minimum PC system requirements for Skype features are: Windows XP, 2000 or 2003 server, 400 MHz processor, 128 MB RAM, 15 MB free hard disk space, a CD-ROM drive, any internet connection and a PSTN connection.

What's in the Box:
Handset, base station, AC adapter, NiMH battery, user's guide, CD-ROM, warranty card

3.0 out of 5 stars phone works pretty well, April 25, 2007

I have had this phone for over two months. It is a pretty good phone. At times there is some echo and delay when I call other landlines in the US. It is less noticeable than when I use a headset through the computer.

One problem that I have with this phone is a software glitch. If my computer is shutdown and dualphone or skype is updating software, it doesn't let me know, so it messes up the phone. To be recalibrated, the phone's battery has to be taken out and then I need to hold the number 3 for one minute. If the phone still does not work, it needs to be totally unplugged from everything and battery out for six hours to reset the phone. That has happened to me 4-5 times already.

I like how I can call landlines through skype on the phone as well as on the computer. The buttons on the phone are harder to push. You have to make sure that you pushed the button just right so as not to misdial a phone number.

The range of the phone goes throughout my house fine. People I talk to say they can hear me just fine. Some delay sometimes, but usally pretty well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Aweson product, March 25, 2007

Had one for almost a month now. it runs perfect on my Win XP machine. call is clear, response if fast. it even displays that you have voice mail and in-coming chat.
It worth every cent.
My mother and mother-in-law all want one now.
===============================
update after one year of usage. The display starts to act up. Part of the screen is blank now. call quality is still perfect.

We bought this phone about a year ago and everything worked pretty smoothly for a little while, but after a couple of months the LCD started not displaying everything (within the year the LCD screen has become only about 15-20% visible). Another problem that just started happening a few weeks ago is that the speaker on the phone has stopped working multiple times, and it has required us to take out the battery, wait a few minutes, and then put the batteries back in before the speaker will start working for another day or two. I got so tired of missing my SkypeIn calls (because I couldn't hear anyone on the other end) that I have now purchased the Philips VOIP841 (just installed it today). It sucks to have to buy a new dual mode phone so soon.
