Spiral upcut bits and a plunge router can drill accurate holes better than most drill presses. Tap that hole and you can assemble knock-down jigs, fixtures, furniture... you name it.

The crucial thing is having a high-quality bit. That is especially true when boring through abrasive materials like MDF or solid-surface counters. Solid carbide is the way to go and Whiteside quality never disappoints.

Whiteside is made is the USA by technicians that know their craft. These solid carbide bits last a l-o-n-g time. The edges are super accurate and never chatter in the hole or dado. The large diameter shank helps with that.

Up-cut geometry helps clear debris from the rout so chips don't interfere with accuracy nearly as much. Use this with a good router and a vacuum dust collection for even better results.

Placing the bit close to the work with a router avoids any spindle-slop that most drill presses are prone to. Use a jig to position the router and your holes come out cleaner than most industrial line-boring machines can manage.

>>>here's a tip... when your solid carbide bits finally do wear out, they make the best burnishers for card-scrapers.
Just bury the cutting flutes into a block of wood at 7 degrees, leaving the shank exposed.
Rub that against your card scraper twice... instant burr!

I was shopping for an up-cut spiral bit for a project and was very pleased when I found this bit. Many similar bits can cost 2-3 times as much but can't do a better job. Sometimes companies make up for a low up front price with high shipping costs, but this bit had the shipping included in the price. One final note, my package arrived after just a couple of days, they didn't drag their feet shipping my purchase. I will definitely but from this seller again and rate them an excellent seller with quality products at very reasonable prices.

Very sharp and cuts baltic birch clean. Haven't tried it on anything else, though.
