Rygar The Battle of Argus is actually a reissue of the Rygar game released on the Playstation 2 a few years ago. Admittedly, I didn't play the original PS2 release. Unfortunately, Rygar for the Wii doesn't come close to perfection. What we end up having is another game ported to the Wii that's given motion sensor controls and the end result isn't exactly the best.

There's not much of a story in Rygar, and so it doesn't really merit much mentioning. It's a little convoluted and disorganized, leaving you with lots of burning questions that don't exactly get answered. It's not a very long game, one that can be completed in one or two sittings, and yet for a story that should've been simple... it's needlessly complicated based on how much it doesn't tell you more so than how much it does. Luckily, most of us won't be picking up Rygar for it's storyline.

There's nothing really complex about Rygar. You swing a shield like weapon known as a diskarmor at enemies, killing just about anything that moves. You can pull off several combos if you want, but for the most part it's a fairly button mashing affair. You can waggle the Wii Remote as well, but it's something that feels tacked on rather than flowing very well. For the most part, you don't actually need any motion sensor controls. Unless you're going to play in Gladiator Mode, where you must waggle the Wii remote to pull off some attacks. But it quickly becomes repetitive.

Level design also suffers slightly because of issues that shouldn't have been such a big deal, even for a game released previously in 2002. The first being that the camera angles just aren't that good. Navigating the game can sometimes be painful because you can't control the camera. Not only do you have cameras shifting strangely, but the jumping moments can be a little tough because you might mess up thanks to the fixed camera. It's an issue that probably wouldn't have been too hard to fix. Just the same, it's amazing how quickly the games sinks into being repetitive. It's not hard to take down most of your adversaries, including some bosses. It's just too simple.

The visuals aren't exactly anything to get excited about either. Even if the game were originally released in 2002, it doesn't exactly look like a great PS2 game either. Which means it doesn't look like a great Wii game either. A lot of the textures are bland and boring and there's a bit of clipping to contend with, not to mention some all around fuzzy moments. It's very rare when a game actually needs a visual upgrade when being reissued, but Rygar might've benefited more from it. It's not a horrible looking game by any means, it's just a game that doesn't showcase the technology of either the PS2 or Wii.

The game doesn't exactly sound that good either. By that I mean the voice acting which sounds horrible. The music itself isn't quite so bad, but it's not the most memorable you'll hear either.

It's a shame that Rygar couldn't have been a better game. It has a lot of inspiration going for it. But the repetitive overly simple combat, tacked on motion sensor controls and bad storyline don't help Rygar out. It may have been originally released in 2002, but even then it's a game that didn't really seem to fair too well. I suppose if you enjoyed it on the PS2 there's no reason you won't enjoy it on the Wii. On the other hand, it's a game that just can't stack up to the games it tries so hard to emulate. You might get a little bit of fun out of it, but it can only last for so long.

The game won't appeal to many people besides those who are already Rygar fans. Choppy game hindered by awful camera angles and a mediocre, cliche story. That being said, EXCELLENT service by the vendor. Prompt shipping and an unbeatable price. For Rygar fans, you can't afford not to buy the game for this price. For casual fans looking for a new Wii game, look elsewhere.

Kinda boring and a let down. Graphix were blah at best. Sad to see a great title brought back with such faliure.

The game might not be the greatest combat game compared with God of War or Ninja Gaiden, but it's certainly fun to play!

I enjoyed the ability to play in 4 different levels of expertise: Easy, Normal, Hard, Legendary. Rygar is all about fighting enemies. The more you fight & beat the faster you can strengthen your Diskarmors. Searching for items is secondary and many times your find yourself destoying pillars, urns and refuse just because it is there. The story line is a little hokey and somewhat lost in translation I think.

Rygar is still an excellent and beautiful game... if you are doubting just because you heard something bad, forget it... Rygar is worth your time and money.

Rygar will impress and excite you, just don't expect it to look like a 2009 game...

this game is awesome, my son can't stop playing it. it was in excellent condition and i will be buying from this seller again.

When this game came out I waited a game as Castlevania: Curse of Darkness, but the truth is that it is very short, the graph is poor, the camera changes are really bad (there are occasions in those that you are not able to see for where you go or where you attack...) and the cinema display is not so good; lastly, the use of the Wiimote to carry out the attacks is very good but alone this available one in Coliseum mode and not in the way it risks (that bad...). If they waited a game with a similar quality to Castlevania you will be disappointed.
