1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed Rabbids Fan January 6, 2013
Verified Purchase
I'm a huge party game fan and an even bigger Ravin Rabbids fan. I could sit and compose a long and detailed writeup regarding the game but I think the only thing you really need to know is the following: THIS GAME ONLY ALLOWS TWO PLAYERS TO PLAY SIMULTANEOUSLY. What "party" game is constricted like this? The game feels as though it was rushed to meet a small niche of the Wii U market and while it completely follows the Mario Party format, you can only play any mini game or challenge between two people. I'm saving hope for one more installment from the franchise, but I think Ubisoft has thrown in the towel regarding ingenuity on the greatest multiplayer game I have seen come across the Nintendo platforms.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great family and party game for quick fun November 21, 2012

My 3 year old son loves the lighthearted humor in this game, the Rabbids make it enjoyable for him. It's cartoon violence but not gorey. He thinks it's hilarious when the Rabbids get hit in the head with a present, among a lot of other scenes.

The game also comes with like, I think it said 80 "movies". Really they're like little movie clips, similar to Despicable Me I suppose. It shows the Rabbids doing various things, and he finds them all funny.

I like that you can do 10 or 20 trophies for each game, 20 may take a while but 10 is about right. With 4 people playing it takes about 15 minutes to get 10 trophies - give or take. It goes a bit faster with just 2 since there's 2 computers.

There's a ton of different mini-games you'll end up doing, and thankfully they all seem to play very easily and the learning curves are about as small as possible. Even for my 3 yr old it typically only takes one round of the mini-game to fully understand what you're supposed to do.

I'd recommend this game to any family with young kids.

2.0 out of 5 stars Some interesting ideas, but not very fun January 13, 2013
Fun: 1.0 out of 5 stars
We had four Rabbids games on the Wii, and more or less loved them all. We got this along with the Wii U last month, and even after playing with different groups of people, I can't say I like it all that much.

It is structured around a board game, where you roll the dice and move to a board square that launches different types of activities. Some are mini-games like in the other Rabbids games, some are quizzes, some are "chance" type squares where you can randomly gain or lose trophies. The goal is to collect a certain number of trophies and return to the starting point.

Way too much of the time is boring set pieces as you return to the game board to roll the dice and move the Rabbids. It isn't very interesting the first time, and gets real tedious, real fast.

The quizzes make it hard to have the kids play along. With all of the other Rabbids games, it didn't really matter how old you were, but here the kids get frustrated with the dumb trivia questions, and they have to be decently fast readers. My son is a reasonably good 8 year old reader, but most questions are beyond him. That would be fine if they were real trivia questions, but they are brain dead simple for anyone over 16, and usually they only give one answer that makes any sense at all. So they aren't that fun for the adults playing either.

The real drawback is the minigames themselves. These were always the centerpoint of the other Rabbids games, and made it fun to play with casual (or non-) gamers that came over to the house. They just aren't very good or fun or engaging. Even after playing them multiple times, we still don't even know what we are supposed to be doing on a number of them.

The cartoon is very funny, unfortunately, the Wii U game is a disappointment. My son thought it wasn't as fun as it looks.

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I have a few Wii U games that I think range from Great! to Okay. But this Rabbids game is one where you can fully engage the power of the Wii U gamepad (I think Zombie U does as well, but the zombie growls and grunts scare me somewhat!) . A previous reviewer said it was not game night friendly because it is only a two player game; that is not completely true. My family plays four players all the time - of course, it is only head-to-head competition not head-to-head-to-head, but each player gets turns quickly and more often if chosen randomly to compete against the players whose turn it is. One of my favorite mini-games is where one player is driving a roller coaster cart that is dropping flaming balls at the other player to the beat of a Lady Gaga song; while your competitor is being pulled behind that cart by a tether while trying to avoid the flaming balls! Hilarious!
This game engages the players physically and mentally. One minute you're trying to match dance moves of a dancing rabbit, then the next play you're trying to keep squirming rabbits off your back. And smathered among the dancing and squirming are mental quizzes that can be easy or hard, or completely obscure.
And the gamepad is not a handheld mini versious of what is on TV: it is it's own interactive game system! Amazing!
Do not hesitate to buy this game...you will love it, especially when you see your kids or grandkids rolling on the floor from laughter!
