Book Description

November 13, 2009
What if your bestselling novel attracts the wrong kind of attention?

Author Beth Rider's second vampire novel has hit number one and she is flying high on her new-found fame. But at a fated book signing that runs late into the night, Beth is confronted by an evil she'd only experienced in nightmares. Jack Dawn, a supernatural monster belonging to an ancient race of bloodthirsty immortals known as the Rakum, vows to track down and kill the young writer because of the vile redemptive message her book is bringing his people.

The Rakum have spread evil among mankind since the Beginning, growing in strength and influence with every passing century. A respected Elder among his brethren, Jack recognizes the novel's destructive potential and his duty to destroy her before the book's promises annihilate his Kind. His method of subduing the novelist is an ancient punishment perpetrated against humans who bring them the ultimate displeasure; Jack marks her as a Rabbit. By forcing her to ingest his poisonous blood, Beth's body now regenerates endlessly and she is set free to be tracked by his hungry brethren. The plan? His people will torture her, slowly, night after night, until she goes insane. Marking her was easy - now Jack only has to sit back and wait for the Rakum to do their worst.

Jack's proselyte Michael Stone was brought up from his youth to be strong, sensible and oftentimes, brutal. But at one hundred and thirty, Michael is old enough to appreciate the quiet and ordered life he'd carved out for himself over the years. Aware that his Elder has marked a human for death, Michael is on the lookout as he leaves work late one night. When he stumbles upon the beautiful and apparently innocent Beth Rider, he is instantly smitten, despite the fact that a few seconds later he realizes that she is the target of his Elder's fury. Puzzled by Jack's unreasonable condemnation, Michael takes it upon himself to protect the lovely author from the limitless lust of his brethren.

Rakum grunt Javier - Millier was never one to question the Fathers nor doubt the word of the Elders but after reading a curiously odd vampire novel, he begins to doubt the understood deity of his race. Soon identified by Jack Dawn as a traitor, Javier goes on the run with Elder Roman and a mortal with a personal hidden agenda. They also are in pursuit of the book's author, although their intentions are quite dissimilar from those of their brethren.

Facing the most terrifying trial of her life against creatures known only in fables, one simple woman will unintentionally threaten the very existence of a powerful and accursed people. In the climactic mêlée, it is a race to the death, or if Beth has her way, a race to the life-of every Rakum who makes the choice.

From the Author

Rabbit: Chasing Beth Rider has been out over a year now, and readers across the board are loving it. The only negative feedback I have ever received on this novel is that some who hate Christian Fiction thought I was trying to snooker them by not filing this book under that genre. Well, in 2010, when TreasureLine republished it, I put those words right on the back cover. I love you all, and it's not my intention to deceive anyone, so let me come clean...

Fair Warning: This novel is horror fiction presented from a biblical worldview conceived and created by a Messianic Jew.

I hope you love this story that I've cooked up for you! ~ Ellen --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

More About the Author

Ellen's subjects range from vampires to angels to demonic powers in dark places; her goal is to entertain the reader while sending a message of redemption apparent between the lines. Pitching faith and bloodlust into a battle to the death, or oftentimes, to the life, Ellen always finds a way to balance the two in a fascinating and intriguing way.

Addicting and delicious, Ellen's brand of story-telling is rife with deep character study and honest emotion. Building characters that she loves deeply, that sentiment carries to the reader as well. Many readers feel that her writing reads 'like a movie in their heads'.

Ellen graduated cum laude from Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Alabama with a BA in Psychology and a minor in Sociology.

Ellen says, "I love to write. I love to create stories that thrill me. The best thing is that they also thrill others, which allows me to continue in this terrific career. I have so many more tales to tell... Please keep your eye on me. I want to share with you again and again!"

5.0 out of 5 stars Shake your world! Read this one!!!!, December 5, 2009
By
Robert L. Boatner (Montgomery, AL USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Rabbit: Chasing Beth Rider (Paperback)
Finally, an author has hit upon a really new idea which intrigues the "vampire" enthusiast and challenges the adequacy of the faith of the religious crowd. Within the 340 pages of Ellen Maze's book: Rabbit: Chasing Beth Rider we are given a believable beginning for the vampire race and exposed to the contortions of that evil society without soiling one's sensibilities in the standards of the trade; lust, porn, and gore. Mrs. Maze's thesis of faith-based battling of evil challenged my views of my own theological adequacy. I tackled this novel with the intent to find fault with it's theology but came away seeing "the plank" in my own eye.

The depth of the characters, the solid theology, a this-could-really-happen storyline, and the self-examination brought about by this reading left me wanting to meet these people, help their efforts, and encounter their God. I truly admonish all to join the chase and seek the Rabbit.

Yes, Rabbit wlll shake your world. There is only one bit of advice to be given: READ THIS ONE!

5.0 out of 5 stars Move over Twilight!!, January 21, 2010
This review is from: Rabbit: Chasing Beth Rider (Paperback)
Beth Rider's bestselling novels are making her a literary star from the south. Little does she know, her books are having a much deeper impact on the lives of others not just her own. She never thought her written words would cause trouble. They caused more than trouble; they brought danger and evil right to her doorstep.

Marked by the blood of an elder, the rabbit has been released for every hungry vampire to enjoy.

Becoming an inadvertent threat to a race of vampires known as the Rakum, Beth Rider now finds herself running from the very monsters that made her novels a hit. Chasing her is Jack Dawn, a brutal elder, with intentions of eliminating her slowly and painfully. To ensure his plan is successful he marks Beth with his own blood so every vampire can smell her out and have a little fun themselves. There is no escape for Beth Rider...or is there?

Along her harrowing path she confronts enemies and discovers allies when it seems none are there. Will it be enough to save her? Can she escape the clutches of a homicidal vampire?

In "Rabbit: Chasing Beth Rider," the chase is on. Will Beth survive?

From the first word, Ellen C. Maze's passion for crafting a gripping vampire tale takes center stage. Instantly, you are immersed in the action and underworld of the Rakum. With each passing page, it is virtually impossible not to care for Beth and her allies in "Rabbit: Chasing Beth Rider." You will find yourself connecting with them on multiple levels.

"Rabbit: Chasing Beth Rider" delivers a fresh new twist to vampire lore. The strength of the plot carries it from page to page as all the pieces fall into place, painting an exciting tapestry. This book is a must have for those seeking a real, refreshing vampire novel.

Author Ellen C Maze's debut novel, is sure to take the world by storm. I see a bright future for this up and coming author.

5.0 out of 5 stars THESE VAMPIRES ARE NOT ROMANTIC MILKSOPS!, August 9, 2010
This review is from: Rabbit: Chasing Beth Rider (Paperback)
"Rabbit: Chasing Beth Rider" is another story in the popular genre of vampires. But this is one with a big difference. I'll just spit it out:

either this is a Christian story about vampires, or it's a vampire story about Christians.

If that offends thee, stop right here! Move along - this tale is not for you! But if tales of the undead at war with ultimate Good tickles your interest, by all means, check out "Rabbit."

Author Ellen Maze herself is fascinating individual who could have stepped from the pages of her novel. She is a Messianic Jew who lives in Alabama. Sounds like a mythical creature? Turns out, she's mystical instead.

Much of Ellen's research comes out of her heritage. Her vampires are called "Rakum," based on an old Hebrew word. And make no mistake: these vampires are not the romantic milksops of "Twilight" variety. The predators Ms. Maze dreams up would eat them for breakfast.

"Rabbit's" blood-suckers are ancient creatures of biblical proportions.

The center of good is the title character, Beth Rider. And "rabbit" refers to the state in which she is transformed by a powerful vampire.

Beth Rider is a novelist, and her most recent effort has offended an ancient and powerful force. He captures the puny human and transforms her into prey that all the brethren will scent from afar. They are overcome with the desire to slake their thirst on her blood.

We know what rabbits do. They run!

But in Beth's attempt to survive, she finds an unexpected ally among the Rakum. And she learns that she possesses a secret weapon - one that not only may save her life, but threaten the entire race of ancient monsters.
