This was one of my favorites from my childhood--wonderful book--absolutely should be back in print.

This book is so wonderful - full of fun sounds, endearing characters, and a spooooky rock. Children love this - my copy is beat to a pulp, but I still pull it out for all the toddlers in my life virtually *all* of whom insist on hearing "Gruummch!" over and over. Scary Rock has never failed me. This book was such a delight to me at the age of 2 (in 1967) that I memorized the entire book including page turn cues and read it to my parents every night. Eat that, Goosebumps!

I first got this book in 1964 when I was six years old. I have kept the original copy as a cherished possession ever since. I have read it through the years to my own children many many times over. It is a delightful book with a charming story line. Every page has some clever wording that kids just find hilarious. And the "sound effects" are always a hit! This book will delight children of all ages. Highly recommended at any price!

I had never heard of this book, but it was my husband's favorite from childhood. I tracked down a used copy and the effect on our 3-year old was dramatic. Often, reading books before bedtime is a prime opportunity for her to bounce around the room. Not with this book -- she sits riveted when we read it. I guess it's the perfect mystery book for that age -- she is in utter suspense, waiting to find out what is going on with the scary rock. She loves the other "rabbit skunk" books, too (I found 2 others). They really all should be reissued!

Deliver kids back into the days before. If you are the generation that did not suffer the turmoil of the 70's , the MTV phenomenon , or the mindless info-toon, you are the people who remember the Weekly Reader Book Club. I find myself reviewing a book I haven't seen or read for almost 40 years. What an impact this little book must have had. Give it a chance in the life of your six year old. I remember your worlds , Carla Stevens.
