The price on these canned tomatoes seems to fluctuate a bit, as with most dry/canned goods on Amazon.com, but at the current price of $16.84 for twelve 28 oz. cans (or $1.40 per can), this is a good product for a good price. In Manhattan supermarkets, these items can rarely be found at this low a price. Anyway, these are very good quality whole peeled tomatoes in tomato juice. I use them for making chunky pasta sauce, although this does entail using a paring knife to cut up the tomatoes a bit before simmering them. It's not that much work and I don't mind doing it. One reason I prefer the whole tomatoes over the crushed kind is that you can pour off the juice from a couple of cans to make Gazpacho with, then freeze the tomatoes to use later or make sauce with. A few of the cans came slightly dented, but they were all still sealed, and I'm sure Amazon would replace any that were breached. Given how heavy these cans are, getting free shipping for them really adds to the benefit of the bargain.

Was very happy with this product. Tomatoes are excellent quality, firm, little extra liquid in the cans. Make wonderful sauce or use them in other ways too.

How cool is that, not have to lug a case of caned tomatoes home from the store???

I was looking for a substitute for homegrown canned tomatoes for spaghetti sauce and chili. I usually add two tbs of sugar to my sauce recipe but these tomatoes took double that amount. I should have tasted one of them before throwing them in the pot and that might have given me an idea about the flavor. The can says salt, calcium chloride and citric acid added so that might be where the difference is. Still though, the beautiful, firm fruit made a delicious spaghetti sauce and I would recommend them.
