Raccoon Trap - Duke Dog/Pet Proof Animal Coon Hunting Trap - Easy Setup for Anyone - The Duke Dog Proof Coon Trap features a fully enclosed dog, cat, or pet proof design with powerful coil springs, a trigger system and a staking system. When the raccoon reaches in for the bait, the trap will go off. Apply the bait to a cotton ball. Then place it below the trigger so the raccoon has to reach past the trigger to get the bait. You'll have yourself a trapped raccoon in no time.
Product works fantastic! It appears that it will last for years and for many catches.
Peanut butter and marshmallows go in at night, chicken eating, garbage can wrestling raccoons and possums buried in the morning. No instructions were found in the packaging, but you can find YouTube videos. You are going to need a way to chain the trap to a tree so the trap doesn't go off with the animal. I use a 60 lb. rated dog leash. Trap takes considerable strength to set; some people may require help to set it.
Remember, there are not too many choices when you catch something in this trap. There is not going to be any "releasing" going on; unless you like being mauled. I'm not a big fan of relocation anyway. You need to take care of your own problems not drop them off near my house. =-)

My brother and I had bought these traps to test on our deer lease. The first night we put them out, we trapped 3 raccoons. We definitely think that they are well worth the money spent and plan to buy more.

I resorted to this trap in order to catch a raccoon that was tearing the hinges off my chicken coop and was too clever for his own good, because he refused to be caught by the humane live trap so that he could be relocated. I want to stress that this is NOT the trap you want if you are a tender-hearted keeper of pet backyard chickens. Just because it's "dog proof" does not mean it's a humane trap. If you use this trap, you have to be prepared to shoot what you catch, because there is no way you're going to get a wild animal out of this trap alive without losing an arm and possibly some other body parts you'd rather keep.
That said: it definitely works. I caught my marauder the first night I set it out, after nearly a month of trying to catch it with the live trap using all my best no-fail tricks.
This trap is VERY sturdy and will probably last for generations, but I have to say I was dismayed at first with how hard it was for me to set. I could only squeeze the spring if I used every bit of strength in both hands, and that left me no hands with which to actually set the lever. (Yah, go ahead and snort, boys.) Fortunately the instruction sheet it comes with (well, mine came with one, anyway!) described an alternative method for setting that involves using a screwdriver as a lever, and that worked just fine.
A sturdy length of chain is welded to this trap, and I wrapped that around a steel fence-post and linked it with a small carabiner. I imagine you could pound your basic 4' t-post from Home Depot into the ground for this, even if you don't actually have a fence. Don't try wrapping it around any small trees that you actually want to keep - all the bark will be rubbed off by morning.Read more ›

PERFECT Raccoon trap! Cheap, durable and 100% garaunteed to catch a raccoon the first time one reaches its paw inside. Just secure the trap to something strong, put any bit of bait or leftover food behind the trigger, wait til they come out at night and WACK! what you do with your catch is up to you though, i mean its gotta come out of that trap at some point right?

I use theses traps on our land. We're overrun with raccoons. I'll have a dozen coons on my game camera at each feeder cleaning the corn out of 5 different feeders on our place. We have varmit cages on all our feeders and they still manage to get the corn out. I used them recently (1-12-13), set 4 traps and caught 4 raccoons. Make sure you tie the traps down to something or they'll walk away!!! I use baling wire, put about a four foot piece on the trap and I secure them to a tree. I use cat food with some fish oil on it and a marshmallow below the trigger and at the top. After you catch a few they seem to stay away for a couple of months. When they come back in my camera pics, I set the traps again....

Never trapped before because I was too nervous about catching a dog or a cat. First night I caught a nice big male coon, a boar. Second night I caught a much smaller one.
These traps are truly "dog proof" and do a great job. I strongly suggest staking them down and tying them to a small tree with some wire. These are exactly what you want for catching coons and nothing else!

Performed great Spring very stiff at first but after one use it was just weakened enough to set by hand. (Had used a vice the first time.). Caught three huge old coons and a possum so far.

Sure does work well. I have been using truckload coon bait. I got coons the very first night. I Have never used this style before, but i am impressed with how effective it is.
