Amazon tells me I purchased this product on Mar 13, 2012. I had the local shop install them on my full-suspension camber 29er the same week they arrived. On June 30th 2012 the bottom bracket started clanking at the end of my bi-weekly ride and the cranks were sliding slide back and forth about a half an inch when we loaded the bikes onto the rack. Local shop now tells me I've worn completely through the bearings in the BB and that I'm lucky they didn't start grinding or catching while we were out.
Now I've worn out plenty of parts in my day, but a 3 month lifespan for a BB is unbelievable. My last bike was a 150mm full-suspension freeride rig. I put a Shimano LX crankset through the worst kinds of abuse that Utah's mountains had to offer for 6 years without any problems. In contrast, these RaceFace cranks haven't been abused and didn't even last 6 months. I now ride a 100mm 29er cross country bike and have grown out of throwing myself off of jumps and drops. Moreover, I live in San Diego where the trails are dry and dusty so these cranks have never been exposed to mud or water.
If you are deciding between these and the XT 9-speed crankset, keep in mind that the bearings are not replaceable in this BB so the whole thing will have to be replaced. In other words, add another $50-60 plus labor to the purchase price for the cost of replacing the BB once it wears out. I wish I could say that I just got a bad batch or that maybe this was a defective set of bearings, however a quick google search indicates that I am not alone in my dissatisfaction with the quality and durability of recent RaceFace BBs. MTBR.com has several forums full of dissatisfied RaceFace customers.

What can I say, their race face. I believe they are one of the best. They come with the bottom bracket and they are a great value for the price.

PROS:
THIS RACEFACE "EVOLVE" CRANKSET (9-SPEED) HAS VERY HIGH QUALITY CHAINRINGS FOR THE MIDDLE SIZE AND LARGE SIZE CHAINRINGS ONLY. THE SMALL CHAINRING IS ONLY THE REGULAR CHEAP KIND. THE CRANKSET IS ADJUSTABLE TO DIFFERENT CHAIN LINES SO THAT TUNING YOUR FRONT GEARS CAN BE MADE VERY SIMPLE AND QUICK. THE CRANKSET IS VERY SIMPLE TO REMOVE AND TO INSTALL. EACH INDIVIDUAL SIZE CHAINRING CAN BE QUICKLY REMOVED ONE-BY-ONE FOR CLEANING PURPOSES. THE PURCHASE COST OF THIS (9-SPEED) CRANKSET IS SOMEWHAT ECONOMICAL IN COMPARISON TO SEVERAL OTHER COMPANIES THAT MANUFACTURE SIMILAR TYPES OF CRANKSETS IN TERMS OF QUALITY AND SPECIFICATION. (RACEFACE IS A CANADIAN BASED COMPANY TOO). THE BOTTOM-BRACKET BEARINGS COME INCLUDED WITH THIS CRANKSET AND THE BEARINGS ARE OF THE "ABEC5" STANDARD FOR BEARINGS.
CONS:
SOME OF THE SMALL PARTS IN THE CRANKSET SUCH AS THE CHAINRING "BOLTS" THAT HOLD ALL OF THE CHAINRINGS TOGETHER ARE KIND OF DELICATE AND YOU NEED TO BE CAREFUL AND GENTLE WITH THE "BOLTS" SO THAT THEY DON'T SNAP AND CRACK IN HALF WHEN YOU ARE IN THE PROCESS OF TIGHTENING THEM ALL DOWN BOLT-BY-BOLT. IT IS ALSO VERY DIFFICULT TO FIND OR LOCATE THE CORRECT TYPE OF REPLACEMENT CHAINRING "BOLTS" IF YOU MANAGE TO BREAK ONE OR TWO OF THE BOLTS.
FINALLY, THE MAIN LOCK-BOLT THAT IS LOCATED ON THE CRANKARM TO HOLD THE TWO CRANKARMS TOGETHER SECURELY ON YOUR BIKE MUST BE TIGHTENED DOWN EXTREMELY TIGHTLY OR IF THE LOCK-BOLT IS SOMEWHAT LOOSE AND YOU RIDE YOUR BIKE IT MAY RESULT IN DAMAGE TO YOUR CRANKARMS. MAKE SURE THAT THE MAIN LOCK-BOLT IS ALWAYS TIGHTENED DOWN ALL THE WAY VERY VERY TIGHT.
(IF THIS CRANKSET IS INSTALLED CORRECTLY IT IS A VERY GOOD, VERY HIGH QUALITY CRANKSET FOR (9-SPEED) MOUNTAIN BIKES. AND, AS I MENTIONED BEFORE THE PURCHASE PRICE FOR THIS PRODUCT IS ACTUALLY VERY ECONOMICAL).
