Book Description

AS SEEN ON LOCK UP- A California Pelican Bay Prison Story-Volume 1
A penetrating look inside of one California's most dangerous prisons.
B.J, a drug dealer serving time, struggling to hold on to truth and his faith in God, takes the reader on a never before seen, inside look at a California level 4 prison. The inner dynamics between prison guards, gang investigators and the Warden are on display along with the political climate between races with a war brewing between the Mexicans and Blacks. A piercing account of the process for gang validation into solitary confinement at Pelican Bay's SHU through the eyes of inmates struggling to survive gang wars, in prison drug debts, prison politics, rules and regulations, and ultimately power and control, while desperately trying to find a path for redemption along the way.

Next in the series- Lock Up Diaries- Drug Debts to see what happens in prison when dope is involved...

Then Vol 3 Gladiator to see Mexican Mafia hit man Bat in action, while B.J. deals with a potential race war!

Also, check out Roll Call and the sequel, Upon Release, for redemptive stories of God over evil in the U.S. War on Drugs!

Author Bio- I'm an obsessive compulsive addict, in recovery, saved by God’s Grace, who researched the U.S War on Drugs so deeply, I met and did business with Mexican Cartels, outlaw bikers and street gangs until the criminal justice system interrupted me. From prison, for 10 years I wrote every morning at 4 AM, before the politics and survival in a variety of California level 4 prisons took over. Upon my release from prison I married my dream girl ballerina Sanette, who plays Annette in the sequel to Roll Call, Upon Release. My vision is to help other prisoners write and publish their art and stories and God is blessing me in this direction daily with my Lock Up Diaries and other works. I use prisoner art for my book covers...

Editorial Reviews

Review

  • "A raw, breathless descent through the inner circle of the California Penal Hell. Fraught with detail that only someone who's been there could know." Phillip Doran, TV Producer and author"
  • The story starts with a visually intense prison riot from the eyes of the main character, B.J, who is leaving California's hardest core prison, Pelican Bay, to enter another violent prison. From there, B.J gets into the politics of prison life as he tries to deal with problems between races and the prison staff and stay alive while searching for a chance to change his life." Jackie Smith U.S.C.

From the Author

Glenn Langohr ran away from a broken home with a death wish and entered the drug war with abandon. Business with the Mexican Mafia and Hell's Angels became a way of life until the Criminal Justice system interrupted him with Organized Crime charges. In prison he was involved in riots and spent years in the hole. From solitary confinement he started writing and hasn't stopped since. Now, he is an usher at his church and loves to reach out to other prisoners to help them turn their lives around. He speaks as a guest Lecturer at Criminal Justice colleges and writes articles for newspapers. "I want to show the world and the students and leaders of tomorrow, that we are only building bigger criminals by locking up low level offenders, where in prison, an addiction is bred into an affliction much harder to escape."

5.0 out of 5 stars do the crime/do the time December 18, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
this is an extremely realistic story about inmates in a hellish prison.i found it sad and somewhat touching.prison life created more punishment from prisoners themselves than from the system.

5.0 out of 5 stars A detailed account November 28, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is an interesting look into the world of a prisoner. A family member of mine was in jail for five years so this helped shed some light on what they went through, the mindset and the world in which the prisoners lived without it being over dramatized for television. What really shines through in this novella is the detail the author puts into the things only a ex prisoner would know.

5.0 out of 5 stars Does this really go on in our prison system? December 24, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
A beautifully written expose of a violent prison system. This book was recommended by a friend so I downloaded it to my computer. I don't have a Kindle so I normally print these out to read at leisure. However once I took an initial glance I just kept reading until 2 hours later I was finished. A bit of a shocker really. The author writes with deep emotion and feeling. I'm darn glad I'm a law-abiding citizen as I wouldn't want to go through any of this!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A suspenseful look at prison life September 15, 2012
By Pat
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A suspense thriller about a looming prison riot, and also a
"Lockdown" style look at the dangers and routines of daily life in segregated housing. An exciting listen.

4.0 out of 5 stars Visceral August 25, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is the second of the author's memoirs I have read; although of short length, they offer fascinating insights into prison culture and the men who try to retain their dignity. I recommend this series. Period.
