5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoy the Ride and Leave the Sailing to Charlie Brown!, August 29, 2000

W. Langan "take403" (the end of the world to your town!) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I think this is the best of the Charlie Brown movies. It focuses on the whole gang, not just Charlie Brown and Snoopy. Lucy leaves most of the bossing around to Peppermint Patty this time around, Marcie instigates votes to make desicions (and the boys lose their cabin headquarters, consequentially!). When Peppermint Patty complains that breakfast isn't traditional campout style, Charlie Brown silences her- "Where's the flapjacks, Chuck?" "Listen, if you don't like it, don't eat!". Schroeder insists on taking his piano onto the rapids, although Linus didn't think there'd be enough room- "Well then, if there's not enough room for my piano, maybe there isn't enough room for your blanket either!" (Linus has a change of heart after that argument!). Snoopy acts as crazy as usual, kissing all the girls goodnight, and Woodstock uses Snoopy as a mountain to ski on when it snows (in summer! )! Then there's the arrogant, nasty opponents chanting "We're #1!" (give them credit, when it comes to cheating, they are indeed #1!).

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Peanuts Movie!!, November 12, 2001
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Race For Your Life, Charlie Brown [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I am the world's biggest Peanuts fan. I have plans so big I couldn't tell them. This is my favorite Peanuts movie. Charlie Brown tries to become a leader, and the annoying cheaters try to win. They even have a cat, named Brutus! In a few scenes Brutus goes after Woodstock(naturally). Lots of laughs and adventure as they go on a wild ride and into a cabin, and going across the lake. And those girls... They kept doing that crazy voting thing. They even voted on if they should take their raft off the land to continue the race! It's hilarious. Here's some dialogue I've chosen

Lucy: What kind of a place is this to be stuck in? We can't even plug our irons in!

Speaker: Campers will be up at o 500.
Franklin: What's "O 500"? Noon time?

Speaker: Race will start at 1800.
Sally: I wasn't even born in 1800!

Marice(in a sack race): Sir, I don't think I was meant to be a potato.

Snoopy is funny especially on the motorcycle, carrying Charlie Brown and him saying the classic line"Why can't I have a normal dog like everyone else?". Though the girls steal the funny lines. The whole gang takes place here in this likeable Peanuts adventure.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good times, February 2, 2000
By A Customer
Perhaps the nicest thing about this film is that Charlie Brown is finally allowed to have some victories, and isn't ragged on so much (Peppermint Patty excepted); the first two cinematic features (A Boy Named Charlie Brown, Snoopy Come Home) are SO sad and bittersweet they don't stand up to a lot of repeated viewings (unless you like feeling sad a lot). Here, it's all about fun, friends and camaraderie. The gang winds up at camp and faces off against a bunch of young toughs in a rafting race--of course, those bad kids cheat any chance they get, but the Peanuts gang comes through--with Charlie Brown as leader (thank you, Charles Schulz!)! Lots of good slapstick stuff for the kiddies--Woodstock climbs a snow-covered Snoopy and tries to turn him into a ski resort, runaway rafts, blasting accidents(!), Snoopy & Woodstock rolling around in a tire...and quieter moments that are really quite sweet, and show the author's pedigree--what other kid movie would have the kids holed up in a cabin, where they find an old victrola and waltz to "Charmaine?" I rather like the film music as well--would I watch this had I not a 4-year-old? Well, not as much, anyway, but this is really pretty good as kids' features go.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great! Now this is more like it!, June 18, 2003
This review is from: Race For Your Life, Charlie Brown [VHS] (VHS Tape)
After two somewhat disappointing full-length Peanuts features, "Race for your life, Charlie Brown!" originally released in 1977 is a real Peanuts classic! It was the third Peanuts feature out of the series of four and it was one of the best! What made this feature stand out from the previous two was the fact that all of the major characters from the series where here, those characters are Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Woodstock, Lucy, Linus, Sally, Schroeder, Peppermint Patty, Marcie and a less popular one, Franklin.

The story begins when the whole gang is sent out on bus to summer camp where they meet a trio of bullies who seem to win every camp game by winning. Even the camp's main and largest event, the multi-day river race. The gang divides itself in two groups, the boys and the girls and set off down stream to defeat the competetive bullies. In their way down the river, the two groups face many challenges and even a large thunderstorm that wipes them all out. The gang then reunites and shelter themselves in an old log cabin. Eventually, the gang gets back on the water and aim towards the finish line, but will they all make it there first together?

Although the storyline is quite simple, every scene in this movie is filled with fun! The lines are hilarious! Especially those by Peppermint Patty and Lucy. The film doesn't feature as many songs as the previous two titles, but the two songs that are in the film are great and lively, the soundtrack is also excellent! This is definitely one of the better Peanuts features out there, I recommend it most along with "Bon Voyage, Charlie Brown (and don't come back!)."

Charlie Brown and the gang goes on a camping trip and Snoopy and Woodstock are trailing behind the bus in a motorcycle! It doesn't get any better than this. Good moral in the story about leadership where Charlie Brown proves himself as a great leader and can lead his friends and stand up to bullies. They don't make them like this anymore!

5.0 out of 5 stars They don't make cartoon movies like this anymore!, May 22, 2007
By
I'm a huge Charlie Brown fan, I've seen "Race for Your Life.." about 5 times when they use to show it on TV back in the 70s and 80s, it is my absolute favorite. I really want to know when it comes out in DVD I will buy several copies for all the children in my extended family to watch good, wholesome fun characters. And yes Snoopy and Woodstock on a chooper motorcycle is hilarious! If you've never seen the movie, it's a classic...put it on your wish list ;o)

5.0 out of 5 stars White Water Rapids Swoosh The Peanuts Gang To A Big Win!, September 5, 2006
This is my TOP RATED Charlie Brown adventure of all time! This story is based on a camp retreat with all of the Peanuts characters present, yeah! While at camp, the Peanuts clan find they have different ideas of how camping should be done. Peppermint Patty proves to be too much for the well natured intents of "Chuck" as he attempts to prepare breakfast not to Peppermint Patties standards, "where's the flap jacks, Chuck?" The tention between the gang grows until the announcement of the camp activity of a white water river rafting challenge. The Peanuts gang join together as a team against other campers to win the title of "Champion White Water Rafters." For the gang, this might prove to be more of a challange than they original set out for. Plagued with another river raft riding crew of crooked campers, the Peanuts gang encounter many hang-ups and course changes to drive them off track and keep them from completing the course first. The two teams set out to win the championship river riding but little do they know, it will be a lesson in friendship and teamwork too! I loved this movie, so did my gradeschool boys! This is an action adventure with all the greatest characters, including Peppermint Patty, Schroder, Snoopy, Charlie Brown, Linus, Lucy, and Woodstock too! The crew is a team of all stars and I think this is a super addition to anyone's collection and classic chidrens' DVD's. Our favorite scene comes at the beginning and end of the movie where Snoopy and Woodstock ridebehind the bus of campers on their Harley Davidson motorcycle through the deserts. The two are just hysterically funny and so personable, you want to hop right on the back of the motorcycle and ride off with them. My boys really identified with those motorcycle scenes too, Snoopy was his dramatic self as he dressed in black leather and had every riding accessory, very funny!

This was a fun movie. I used to enjoy watching this when it came on the Disney Channel. So nostaglic. I loved the Peanuts gang and everything to do with them. "Snoopy Come Home" and "A Boy Named Charlie Brown" were my person classics though, I loved those movies to death. These were my films back in my kiddie days. I will always love them and I will give them to my kids when I get older.

Why are they reissuing the same ones over and over? I love the easter beacle and great pumpkin but how about this one on DVD, Bon Voyage Charlie brown She's a good skate? Things like that? They're crowd pleasers good fun the whole family can watch. I miss those from my childhood and bet plenty others do too. So how about putting those on DVD? With captioning please.
