Format: Paperback
The definitive (and only) guide to movies involving all forms of fast machines--sports cars, Indy cars, stock cars, Formula 1s, dragsters, hot rods, choppers and motorcycles, and a variety of wild chase scenes. Accept no substitute. Ron Main, the crazed enthusiast who's seen every one of these movie not once but dozens of times (and owns most of them), and his co-writing partner Dave Mann deliver the movie-review goods. They love 'em all--the crazier and wilder the better. I bought the book for the motor racing reviews and learned a great deal. For example, "The Last American Hero" (based on the life of stock-car racing legend Junior Johnson, starring Jeff Bridges) is one of lost gems of racing cinema and perhaps the greatest racing movie ever made. Other lost gems: "Speed" (Jimmy Stewart, in his first starring role), and "The Big Wheel" (Mickey Rooney) and "The Crowd Roars" (James Cagney), and one of Main's personal favorites "Burn-'em Barnes" (from 1934). All are available thru various websites. Then there's "To Please a Lady" (Clark Gable) and "The Racer" (Kirk Douglas) and "Red Line 7000" (James Caan) and "Johnny Dark" (Tony Curtis) and "Eat My Dust" (Ron Howard) and "Thunder in Carolina" (Rory Calhoun) and "Grand Prix" (James Garner) and "Le Mans" (Steve MeQueen) and "The Wild Ride" (Jack Nicholson), and "Thunder Road" (Robert Mitchum) and "Days of Thunder" (Tom Cruise). It's seems everyone in Hollywood has made a racing movie.Read more ›
