DO NOT BUY - Lifetime Warantee my...,
By
This review is from: Furi Rachael Ray Gusto-Grip 3-Piece Knife Set (Kitchen)
I received this set of knives for Christmas 2006 and the larger knife came defective. And since they advertise a "limited lifetime warranty" I figured I go straight to the manufacturer for a replacement. Bad idea. I contacted them in early January 2007 and no one got back to me. Then in early February I contacted them again. When I called they told me to email them describing the issue. I did and after a couple weeks and a lot of frustration I called back. This time I was told to send an email. Oh, what a surprise. I explained that I already sent an email and I was told that they were going through some changes and I was assured that someone would respond to my email this time. So I sent yet another email describing the problem. But unlike the previous emails, this one received a response. The email asked that I submit their return authorization form, which I completed and faxed back. Over two months later and I'm still wondering when this knife will be replaced.
So what good is a "warranty" if you can't get in touch with the company so they can honor their warranty?

Better Hope You Don't Need Warrranty Service,

The knife set is ok, but no great deal. Worse I had the knife set about 6 months and the handle of the larger knife came loose. It has a limited lifetime warranty so I called the company and they indicated they would replace it. I followed directions for the return - that was on 24 May. After much run around and many e-mails from customer service I have finally given up on ever seeing a replacement.
Better to spend your money with a local retailer where you will have a better chance of getting some decent warranty service.

Great Knives w/Great Handles,
By
This review is from: Furi Rachael Ray Gusto-Grip 3-Piece Knife Set (Kitchen)
These are my first real knives. I've been using them for about six months, and I LOVE them. They chop like a breeze, and the silicon handle doesn't slip even if your hands are covered with oil. The silicon is also applied such that food cannot get between it and the bolster or heel.
With all the use they've seen after six months, they are now in need of professional sharpening. Other than that, I hone them every time I use them and make sure to wash and wipe them after every use. Wiping does leave marks on the blade but doesn't seem to affect cutting ability. I've really enjoyed mine.

Too Pricey,
By
This review is from: Furi Rachael Ray Gusto-Grip 3-Piece Knife Set (Kitchen)
I tried this knife at Sur La Table at the Furi demo. They appeared to be very sharp. However I did not like these knives for the following reasons
1) I dont care much for the cheap plastic-like orange handles 2) The finish on the knives appear to be cheap. Furi implies that these knives are made in Germany. However they are cheaply "Made in China". Now generally I dont care that much .. everything is now made in China anyways.. But when I am paying so much money for a product, I was hoping it was made in Germany or USA. 3) The case is even more cheaply made. Personally, I would wait for a sale on the Global or the Wustof knives.

After 2 years i feel i can make an honest review,
This review is from: Furi Rachael Ray Gusto-Grip 3-Piece Knife Set (Kitchen)
I think a lot of product reviews are skewed by people reviewing products too early, so i personally never review until a lot of time and use has come from a product. So, i bought these back in 06 and now that i am looking at REAL knives and cookware products i decided to look back on these ones that i had and see what people are saying about them.... and so here comes my review.
I bought these knives when i moved out of my moms house into my first studio apartment while going to college. I paid for most of the things myself.. such as skillets, brooms, bedsheets and other household goods..... and so in that process of creating my mini house i decided to get some knives. At the time these knives where cheaper than they are now and as a first set of knives for a college kid they were great- but at the same time I also thought my T-Fal non stick skillet was amazing as well. Now that i am redoing my kitchen gear and married with my own real home these knives have no place in my kitchen. They have a variety of problems, one of which is ugly orange handles and they are not well balanced in comparision to a good knife. But the worst thing of all, these knives DO RUST and i take good care of them, we sharpen them and wash them after each use and dry right away....... and still there are tiny rust dots... and a lot of rust at the metal end where it says Furi. In terms of cutting- they are good and sharp if you sharpen them on a regular basis, but the steel is not that good because one of my knives has a chip in the blade after sharpening. So if you have to sharpen the knives often to maintain their performance ... what is the point of getting this knife set over a cheaper one, most descent knives from major retailers will perform as well as this knife set as long as they are sharpened constantley... and you might not even have to deal with the rust issue with other brands of knives. Overall, at teh time of the purchase, when i was a college kid, this was a good knife set, but right now i do not think of it as any better than a set from any retailer that would have been half the cost or less.....so the end consensus is that i would not make this purchase again

Even the Ginsu is sharp and easy to use out of the box--at a fraction of the price. And it, too, has a lifetime guaratee :)
Seriously, if you want to "cook like Rachael Ray" and invest in your first good knife set, go to the store and handle several different brands and types before deciding to spend the money on these. There are better quality knives available at this price. Learn about what the knives are made of (Steel vs. Stainless steel ALLOY) and how they're made. I sincerely hope that fans aren't purchasing these over-priced knives because they are endorsed by Rachael Ray, instead of investing in quality German or Japanese-made knives available for close to the same price -- that are used by true Chefs. If Rachael Ray respects her audience, she'd educate her viewers about knives instead of making money off of them, hawking mediocre knives at a premium price.

Poor Quality Control Not Up To German Standards,
By
This review is from: Furi Rachael Ray Gusto-Grip 3-Piece Knife Set (Kitchen)
I have to admit that I was a little shocked with these knives. Opened them on Christmas and used them that night. Had a horrible time trying to get the stickers off of the knives, solvent did not seem to do the trick so I used a rough sponge which took the names off if the knives completely. The next day after cleaning the knives I noticed several rust pits in the knife! This is only 1 day old! The stainless of these knives (made in China) are clearly not up to the standards set by my other German knives.

This is a good set of knives. They are comfortable to hold with the fun orange grips. They have a pretty good balance, especially for mincing and slicing vegetables. A great part of this is the bamboo box, its perfect for those of us who don't yet have a large knife set and block to add to. The box has a magnetic clasp and looks great. I would definately recommend this as a starter chef's knife set. If you're looking for high quality (high price) though definately spring for the Wustof sets. My only complaint is I wish it came with some kind of sharpener. The complaint that these knives aren't sharp is ridiculous; you need to hone this type of knife for superiour cutting and safety. If your looking for something that doesn't need to be sharpened go for ceramic: they stay sharp for life, but in my opinion aren't the highest quality.

super sharp!!,

Knives were just as I expected. Very comfortable and easy to use. I feel like a pro using them. One problem was that my 5inch knife came with some minor scratches on the blade - (maybe from the manufacture's sharpening). However it wasn't enough to detract from the overall appearance or functionability. The wooden box is not anything fancy, but that's not the reason why I purchased the knife combination. It's just for safe storage when not in use. The blades are super sharp! The handle provides a good form fitting grip. The overall knife is weighted nicely for better control. You won't be dissapointed.

Chopping potatos or tomatos with these knives--Fantastic!,

I've been chopping hundreds of apricots with these knives and they have performed wonderfully. Sharp, well-balanced and the the handles are comfortable and don't slip. I didn't buy these because of Rachel Ray's endorsement; I actually went to Sur La Table and tried out all of their knives. I think it's a personal choice as to how a knife feels in your hand and how your wrist likes its weight. I liked these the best over the more expensive knives for sale, but then that's my personal choice. Other reviewers did not like the orange handles, but for me, that's the best part of the design--the handles seem very ergonomic. The shape of the east-west knives are ideal for slicing and chopping and using a rocking motion for fine dicing. I haven't quite decided what to do with the bamboo case they come in, but for now, the case is a good storage box to protect my knives.
