I wanted to love these so badly. They are so beautifully designed. This is a set I can see selling in the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) store. The design is elegant, pure and extremely modern. The problem is that they're just not functional. A big problem is that you can't see how full the bottles are when pouring the liquid in. Then you can't tell when to fill them.. When filling them you have to hold Rachel's bottle at an angle facing up with one hand while pouring the oil in with the other hand. It's much easier to have the bottle standing on a table while pouring the oil in,infact that's the way it should be but that would take away from the beauty of the design. I wanted to be able to serve dinner for visiting relatives and have something "fancy" on the table. If I put these on the table it would have to be for show only. My biggest objection and a real fault with the design is that when you pour the liquid out there is no way to control the flow. The oil or vinegar starts to pour out with too much force. If you like your dressing light this will really get you angry. Very bad and disappointing planning from Rachel's designers. Drizzling is out of the question.
I've gone back to using my inexpensive and old fashioned cruet bottle with pourer. It resembles Amazon's Tablecraft 916-16 ounce olive oil cruet with pourer. These control the amount of liquid being poured which is so important. They also look very pretty to see the oil in one bottle next to other filled with Balsamic vinegar.
So, for now I'll have to try to be fancy some time in the future and hopefully continue to impress every one with just my cooking.

I love these--2 lightproof, stoneware vessels that hold oil and vinegar (or olive oil and a lesser-used oil, say pumpkin seed or walnut oil.) They have a lot going for them and I use them daily.

Plus Points:

Lightproof. Oil degrades (oxidizes, goes rancid) more quickly if exposed to light. This keeps it relatively airtight if you keep the spout flap closed, and it's opaque.

Easy to use: the handle cut-out is easy to pick up.

Easy to fill (if you use a funnel.) Sometimes I wing it because I used to work in a lab and it was a point of honor to "pour from a bathtub into a test tube." Use a funnel and you're fine. By the way, the picture seems to imply a funnel comes with this set but it doesn't. The set comes with two stoneware cruets, one large, one small and two spouts.

Pretty: Modern shape, and white stoneware is sleek and especially pretty on dark counters.

Minus Points:

No window to tell you when it's empty--or full as you're filling.

You have to make sure the spout points so the flap hinge is uppermost, or it won't close automatically.

The flap still won't close, sometimes and stays open.

The smaller cruet's handle may be a bit too small for "man-hands."

No funnel included

Summary:

Beautiful, useful on table or counter and pleasant to leave out for making salads or oiling a pan. I have not had the leaking problem reported by some owners.

Purchased these for a Christmas gift, and have found that they work perfect for dish soap to keep on the counter instead of the traditional plastic bottles. Works great..

Love these, we use one for olive oil and the other for regular oil. The are a little hard to fill because you have to hold them backward and then it is hard to see when it get close to the top. But it is something I can live with because all the other oil dispensers the pouring top would always fall off, I don't have that problem with these.

These are nice containers for the fashionable kitchen. They hold a good amount of oil and vinegar. The larger one is 24 ounces, or about 3 cups, so these are too big and heavy for dinner table use. Stoneware construction doesn't is sturdier than glass and doesn't corrode or leech chemicals that affect taste like some metal or plastic containers. Container shapes are very easy to hold and the spouts do a good job of controlling the flow.

I love the look, feel and how this set handles. This is the first time I've had a cruet set that isn't glass and I'm not sure I really care for the fact that you can't see how much is left or how far you're filling it up without constantly having to stop and check (by peering inside) how much more you can put in. Yes, I knew that going in (it's ceramic, I know you can't see through). It's just something that's worth mentioning. As long as I'm on the topic of filling them....they are a bit difficult to fill due to the shape. I've been using a funnel. I'd tried it without one too. Anyway you try, because of their shape, it's hard to do. The spout on the oo cruet tends to hold a drip or two that will ultimately end up on your counter, trivet...wherever you keep your cruet set. I've gotten into the habit of just wiping the tip after use to avoid that. I'd really like to give it 2.5 stars, but rounded up to 3. All in all, it suits the purpose with a great look.
