Wonderful early Rachmaninoff, December 25, 2008

This is the first CD I have heard from Lazic, and it does not disappoint. The popular second concerto is given a wonderful live performance, with excellent support from Petrenko and the LPO, and with very natural life-like sonics. The Moment Musicals, my favorite set of solo pieces by this composer, are also superb, a little more deliberate than the recent Ashkenazy recording (and the classic Lazar Berman Russian recording from many years ago) but nevertheless very persuasive. A real winner.
