I was truly dissapointed with the book. I was not expecting a child version book.
I have meet Windell Scott. I truly admire him. It was quite a sight to see his family at the racetrack. So many children, so well behaved. I was looking forward to an adult version book. As far as a children book it is great. I will keep watch for a more adult book in the future.

This book is pretty square on the facts of Wendall Scott's life, how he wanted to race, did so against the odds of being an African American in the South and having to run a shoestring operation. The illustrations, however, leave much to be desired. The individuals portrayed aren't very in keeping with how they really looked. Wendall's pictures are reasonably close, but Buck Baker doesn't look anything like Buck Baker.
That said, it is worth getting for the information for a child who is a fan of NASCAR and needs some history. |
