I have a Salsa Fargo (2013) and after searching far and wide, this was the only reasonably priced, small, front rack I could find that uses the mid-fork braze-ons. If your bike doesn't have braze-ons midway down the fork, then I wouldn't recommend this rack (unless you really know what you're doing, it would take extra hardware and customization beyond a regular install).

The forks on my bike were a little bit wider than the rack and I had to gently pull it apart while I slid it over the braze-ons (just some spring tension, no bending), but it wasn't a big deal. I also had to bend the bracket that attaches to the top of the bike fork to get it to match the angle, but also not a big deal. Overall, I would say the average person should be able to install this rack, but if you have trouble, any bike shop should be able to help you.

The reason I wanted a rack like this instead of a rack that allows Panniers to mount lower is because I don't want to mount Panniers on it at all. You could mount panniers on this if you wanted, it would just be a bit top heavy and unbalanced if you loaded up a pair of panniers that high above the wheel. I got this to carry lightweight stuff on the front of my bike. I thought of getting a basket, but almost all baskets are handlebar mounted with supports that go down to the front axle. I wanted to mount stuff a little lower than most baskets allow while utilizing the mid-fork braze-ons. This was a perfect fit. Right now I have my light mounted to the front of this rack and I'm carrying the battery for my light on the rack. Eventually I plan on getting a small basket/container to use to store my battery and also carry things I want quick access to like my phone/wallet.

I wanted something that is easy to access like a handlebar bag, except lower and not mounted to the handlebars. This is perfect. Now I just need to find a bag/container that will fit on the rack.

I am cycling across the US, going from Boston to New Orleans to San Francisco (via Missoula, Montana). I have two rear Arkel panniers and one top rear bag that contained pretty much all my stuff, but I was heading through texas and wanted more space inside my bags for water, so I purchased this rack to strap my sleeping bag on.

It was higher above the wheel than I expected. And I had not anticipated the winds of Texas, New Mexico and Colorado.. but that has nothing to do with the rack.

It is well priced and functions nicely.

This is a well made rack. Fit is good with plenty of clearance for fenders. Nice touch for providing a place to mount a headlight. Works best if your fork has mid mount braze-ons but clamps will work too.

Doesn't center over the wheel. It mounts to the front fork pannier lugs. Not big enough to hold panniers. But it seems to be sturdy. The website definition says 22 lbs or 30 KG; which is totally erroneous. The part comes stamped with "10 kg", which is roughly 22 lbs. Seems more sturdy than that. Not bad for the price.

I was having a hard time finding a front rack to fit on my carbon disc brake fork. My fork has the lugs that go about 1/2 way up, but nothing near the axle which is what most front racks require. The disc brake complicates it even further. This rack only requires the half way up lugs and a fender mount at the top of the fork. It seems really solid. I have some medium sized panniers that fit this rack just fine.
