5.0 out of 5 stars racing perfection, July 26, 2007

I can't tell you how disappointed I am that nobody has written a review for perhaps the most underrated video game in the history of the NES console. Oh sure, you're probably thinking "EVERY person on the face of the earth has said "such and such" game is underrated, but can you prove it?" YES, I can prove it.

Rad Racer II is a very fast, arcade-like racing game with really nice graphics for the NES. The speed of your car is *much* faster compared to the first Rad Racer game, and the framerate is totally surprising just how SMOOTH it is. This is a really enjoyable racing game. There's no bugs or horrible graphics or anything to drag down the racing experience. Everything is really on the ball and spot-on accurate.

Here's the point of the game- drive through eight levels from around the country (of America) reaching the flags before time runs out. That's it. So simple, and yet, so incredibly perfect. This is REALLY fun, and you know, many games on the NES are frustrating because of the high challenge level, but not in this case. I beat the game about 20 times throughout my life, and I would gladly play the game again if I had a working NES.

It was an absolute thrill for me to play this game when it was first released. I can't put into words just how much fun I had going over steep hills, going around sharp curves while trying to control the vehicle from hitting something on the side, and the eagerness to experience what was around the next turn. You don't get racing games like this today on the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. Today you get games with mind-blowing graphics and ways you upgrade your vehicle without much creative attention focused on the roads themselves. BORING!

With excellent play control, a challenge that is not frustrating, a game that is beatable, and a speed that is probably the fastest racing game to ever appear on the NES, you really can't go wrong with this wonderful little game. A playable, underrated game.
