3.0 out of 5 stars A Pop Record which could have been more
When I bought Radford I was expecting a disc full of bittersweet pop. It was Radford who released the stunning "Fall at your feet" on the "Teaching Mrs. Tingle" soundtrack. I cant describe how much I absolutely love this cd, and more than anything I want to see this band make it big, they deserve it, and this is the kind of music that should be heard on all the radio stations and mtv type shows. Support these guys, and give this cd a try, I can honestly guarentee you that you wont regret it. This music is powerful, enjoyable, and definately realatable, not to mention beautifully preformed. The lead vocalist has an amazing engilsh accent and every song has incredible guitar and piano.

5.0 out of 5 stars well appreciated thanks to american airlines, July 9, 2001

Well how amusing to put this in a review, but I first heard Radford on those cheap headphones on an American Airlines flight from Chicago to Los Angeles. The two Radford songs on the "alternative rock" airline channel were "Don't Stop" and "Fly" (although they mistyped and wrote "Stop" and "Don't Fly", how 180 degrees and ironic). I was hooked and upon landing immediately went to the music store to purchase the Radford disc. Now it has not left the cd player of my car.

Radford is an extremely versatile group of talented musicians. I say this without much knowledge of them as individuals, I wish I would have heard of them earlier and would have had an opportunity to check them out live, but if they perform anywhere close to the sound they have produced on this album, I would not be disappointed. Their songs range from a hard alternative style to haunting ballads, with an equally wide range of lyrical material.

As it seems that there are more and more grunge and alternative bands coming out of the woodwork these days, I find it harder and harder to find a band that I both like period, and ESPECIALLY one that I like an entire disc of. I am tired of buying cd's that have only two or three good songs on them...Radford has proven to be a cherished buy for me. I listen to it no matter what mood I am in, and no matter who is in the car with me. I highly recommend this disc.

5.0 out of 5 stars You have got to hear this album!, March 23, 2000
This review is from: Radford (Audio CD)
Radford is quite possibly the "next big thing" in alternative music. This cd is absolutely amazing! Its lyrics are all written by band itself, and you can tell that they come straight from the heart. But not only are the words amazing, but the music itself is too with paino, guitar and violin harmonies. Each song is unique and span from pop to alternative to slow and melodic. I had the chance to actually stand and talk to the band memebers at their concert (with stroke 9 and vertical horizon), and they were so incredibly nice and down to earth, you could tell that they love what they are doing. If you are looking for something new, definately give this band a try, believe me you will not regret it. This cd had not left my cd player since i went out and bought it the day it was released!

5.0 out of 5 stars This whole CD is GREAT! Look for greater things!, March 22, 2000

Radford's new cd is one of the best cd's that i've ever purchased! It blends great slow acoustic songs like FLY, Where do you go, and How does it feel...with great pop/rock songs like Don't Stop, Come on, over you, and several others. The whole cd is awesome! Buy this cd! I can gurantee you that you will not be disappointed! Radford should get really big with this release, if not...it is because our culture is so obsessed with boy bands and pretty little girls with no talent. Radford will have you singing their songs in the shower, in the car, and wherever you may be!

"Radford's" first release is an excellent mix of fast and slow rock tracks. I took a chance on purchasing this CD after I saw them at a music festival, hoping it would be as good as the material I heard live...and you know what, it is. The chance I took in spending my money on this CD was, and still is, worth every penny. It takes a lot for me to call a CD that comes out in this day and age "great." That means I enjoy every song on it, and very few CDs can do that.

"Radford's" self-titled first release kicks off with three great fast rock tracks, "You've Got Friends," "Closer To Myself," and "Don't Stop." Then they slow it down a little, but then bust into the three best songs on the album, which you can't help but learn the lyrics and sing along to; "Stand On The Moon," "Come On," and "Overflow." This is just one of those driving CDs: you pop it into your CD deck, sing along, and the time passes so much faster.

It's pop music, but it's damn good pop music. Buy this CD and listen to it, it'll do you good.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Pop Record which could have been more, July 26, 2000

When I bought Radford I was expecting a disc full of bittersweet pop. It was Radford who released the stunning "Fall at your feet" on the "Teaching Mrs. Tingle" soundtrack. This track, pulsing with beautiful harmonies, a tender melody and great vocals, was a highlight on that soundtrack. I was expecting music like this on the Radford cd, but there is nothing which comes close to containing that kind of emotional energy on this album. For this reason, I had to deduct two stars. Notwithstanding, the album is full of solid pop and alternapop with nothing too sugary and just the right amount of bitterness. "Closer to myself" is a good rocker knit together with a sing along melody. "Don't Stop" is one of the over happy pop pieces. "Fly" is the kind of bittersweet ballad which I expected. Although it is not does come close to the aforementioned "Fall at your feet," it is a very pretty song. "Overflow" and "Over You" are both sensational pop pieces. "How Does it feel" closes the disc nicely. I left lacking something though. Overall, I expected more from this disc, but there are some very nice tracks on here. I'd reccomend this disc to those who like vertical horizon, athaeneum, and better than ezra. I hope the next disc of Radford contains some more charged pieces. Satisfactory though.

4.0 out of 5 stars Almost perfect, March 28, 2000

I saw these guys with Stroke 9 and they were great. I bought the CD and was just as impressed. Unlike most bands in their genre, not all of the songs sound the same. There is a good mix of fast and slow songs, as well as bitter angst and trearful regret. "Closer To Myself" and "Over You" are a good example of this. The only problem I have with the CD it that every song is about loss and anger. A little hope would make this CD worth 5 stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars This is worth a listen and a buy, March 23, 2000
This review is from: Radford (Audio CD)
I was lucky enough to get a pre-release CD, and boy do I like it. It's guitar-based rock, no Britney Spears here, it's energetic, the tunes are great, and just to calm things down there are a couple of piano ballads that soar nicely. Closer to Myself is an absolute humdinger that should send shivers down your spine if guitars and rock and roll are anywhere in your blood. Best thing I've heard for ages.

If you like listening to mass marketed, industry-formulated, over processed pasturized music that's been selected for you by a corporate DJ, don't buy this CD. However, if your into innovative cutting edge alternative rock that give your ears something to feast on, go ahead and check out Radford.
