I know this will sound very far-fetched, but Tess' cookbooks changed my life. I cook often, and have a wall full of cookbooks, yet it wasn't until I discovered her first cookbook, Radiant Health, Inner Wealth, that I made the plunge into vegan cuisine. Healthy vegan cuisine. But trust me, you do not need to be a vegan to enjoy her food. It simply healthy food where you won't miss the dairy and meat. Her second cookbook, The Two Week Wellness Solution, seemed a little too gimmicky to me at first glance, but when I finally bought it, I was happy for new recipes (some were repeats from RHIW).

But now, her third cookbook is a gem. All new recipes (except for her Chicky Baby Seasoning which is my go-to veggie bouillon anyhow), these recipes are fabulous. They are all healthy where flavour is never compromised. A lot of her recipes use fresh citrus juice (orange, lemon, lime), lots of garlic and onion, but that's where the genius lies. Once I got past that, my meals have been thriving. Radiance 4 Life, however, has a heavy bent on superfoods. The superfoods could be as common as garlic, spinach or kale, or other more foodie things like red rice and quinoa, but also highlights more obscure foods like raw cacao, maca and acai.

The strength of a cookbook lies in the recipes, and they do not disappoint. The Uptown Salad is worth the price of the cookbook alone, as it is that good. I also really enjoyed the breakfast quinoa with blueberries and pomegranate, maca my day smoothie, green velvet guacamole, supercharged hummus, asparagus walnut sunshine salad, lemon asparagus quinoa toss, Hungarian chickpeas, smoky one pot beans and rice, maca chip cookies, and dark chocolate mint cookies.

Every single recipe I have made from of Tess Challis' cookbooks has been divine. How she manages to create such incredibly tasty recipes that are also the epitome of health is beyond me. This book is my second favorite of her current 3 offerings, with Radiant Health, Inner Wealth - her first cookbook - topping the list because it is so comprehensive. But I love that Radiance 4 Life takes a holistic view of health, focusing (as the title suggests) on 4 cornerstones of vitality: (1) eating a balanced plant-based diet, (2) exercise, (3) inner wellness, and (4) eating a diet rich in superfoods. Although this book is 100% plant-based (i.e., vegan), the recipes are so yummy that they please even my meat-eating friends, with two favorites including the Spicy Pumpkin Pie Shake and the Dark Chocolate Mint Cookies (can you tell I have a sweet tooth?). Each recipe highlights a few of its "superstar" ingredients (i.e., superfoods), and although some recipes do use slightly obscure (and expensive) ingredients such as chia, maca and bilberry, the end result is so worth it. Another wonderful element about Tess' cookbooks is that she always includes menu suggestions (such as Kid-Friendly Recipes, Health Comfort Food Dinner, Healthy Holiday Celebration Feast, etc.), as well as prepared food recommendations with specific brands and recommended kitchen tools. Tess is truly a standout in a sea of cookbooks, and the fact her recipes are based on healthy superfoods is a wonderful surprise for such tasty grub! 5 stars.

Tess Challis continues to illuminate the path she first lit with her book Radiant Health/Inner Wealth. There are extraordinary recipes in Radiance 4 Life and they contain the bonus that each one includes super foods for energy, antioxidants, minerals and more.
Ms. Challis' narrative is more akin to a conversation you'd have with your best friend, albeit one who is well versed and creative in the culinary and healing arts, and with an added, wicked sense of humor.
Right brain aside, she also addresses your left brain with detail.Each delicious recipe includes codes such: G:green (A-OK all day); B: Blue (healthy in moderation); GF: gluten free; SF: Soy free. 30 min. or under; R: raw; and HR :High in raw ingredients.
Beyond food alone, the book, "Radiance 4 Life" equally addresses each of the 4 cornerstones for life:Eating a balanced plant-based diet;Exercise; Inner wellness; and Super foods.
So be well in body and spirit. Be positive. And garner some great recipes, information, and be prepared to giggle.
