5.0 out of 5 stars dependable comfortable well-made tool
Congratulations to RADIANS for an excellent product. Much superior to any other 'banded hearing protector' on the current market [forget those bogus 'foam-plug' jokes that need replacing every other day]. These are light-weight, easy to wear around the neck when not in use, so always handy, a bonus. The 'ear-plugs' are very comfortable and easy to insert and later clean...

3.0 out of 5 stars Works and hard to lose.
Blocks out loud noises like my circular saw. Can drop it around you neck when not cutting so it is less likely to misplace. Presses a little bit uncomfortably in the ears so can't wear it all the time.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed..., June 16, 2008

This was a four star product... until it broke after one week of use. I'm a carpenter and wear banded hearing protection every day for the convenience factor. I liked that the gel material the plugs were made of could be easily cleaned, unlike yellow foam which gets nasty in a hurry. If these lasted a month or two I might of considered buying them again, but a week is unacceptable.

4.0 out of 5 stars Work well and comfortable, May 17, 2010
This review is from: Radians Rad Band Banded Hearing Protection (Apparel)
I had picked these up when they were 20% off, thinking it would be no great loss of they didn't fit. I have trouble finding comfortable plugs and so I'm always on the lookout for new ones as I continue to search for the ultimate pair.

After I bought them at a brick and mortar place, I read the reviews here and was taken aback by the reviews of how uncomfortable they are. And, it's true! Unless you have a very small head, these are painful to wear. I couldn't wear them for more than 10 minutes the first time. The earplugs are just too close to one another and the pressure they put on your ears makes you want to throw them out immediately. But, they are easy to fix: Remove the plugs and drop the plastic band in a pot of very hot water to soften the plastic up. Expand them to where the fit is just right and hold the plastic band under cold water to cool the plastic. It will then retain the new shape. This is a great way of adjusting sunglasses, too.

Be careful to not have the earplugs too far apart otherwise the earplugs won't fit snugly in your ear canals and you'll lose much of the noise reducing ability.

The Jelli Plugs are very comfortable (for me, anyways) as they are very soft and malleable. More so than any foam ones I've tried. Two sets are provided.

The only other thing to be concerned with is the Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) of 23 decibels. I find this level works well for most power tools I'm using but there are times that I use ear protection with a higher rating. Do a bit of research to see if NNR 23 works for you...

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Easy Ear Protection, September 3, 2011

These earplugs offer excellent hearing protection while working construction. The biggest benefit is that they easily clip around your neck when you are not wearing them, making it easy to pop them in your ears just before you grab for the saw or the nail gun. Construction equipment is loud and running it without hearing protection damages your hearing. And let's face it, unless it takes about one second to locate and put on your hearing protection, it's not going to happen. Some of the other reviewers mentioned durability. I had a pair for a year before they broke, and just bought two replacement pairs. They are a few bucks and easy to replace. Also the gel ear inserts are comfortable and easy to clean. Highly recommended product.

2.0 out of 5 stars Too painful for long time use, March 8, 2010

The plastic band cannot be adjusted, and the pressure forces the ear plugs deep into your ear canal. I can only wear these for about 30 minutes then I have to pull them out, and I can only wear them for about an hour a day. They do seal tightly and block noise.

I got these for yard mowing because my outside-the-ear "earmuff" hearing protectors became hot and wet with sweat. I have an older pair of ear plug protectors that have an adjustable stainless steel band and a blunt type of oil filled ear plug, and they are more comfortable. It would help if a blunt type of ear plug was offered.

These would be good for short time noise exposure. The most comfortable hearing protection I have found are the cheap foam ear plugs that you compress by rolling between your fingers and then press into your ear canal.

I don't know if it's because I have a large head or not, but this was not comfortable at all. The problem was not the material that goes into your ears, it was that there was way too much pressure applied through the band.

These plugs do reduce the noise from shooting but I can't stand the pain after ten minutes.
