The music on this album harkens back to the early 1970s and at moments it is truly great. Richard's guitar playing is always a special treat. Several of the songs here remind me of Mink DeVille and others back in the day. Richard is a phenom on the guitar, but that only points out that he is not as talented a songwriter or singer. Richard's curse is that every release he puts out will always be compared against Television's Marquee Moon, one of the greatest records ever made. This album does not measure up well against that standard, but what album ever can? None of Tom Verlaine's nor Television's subsequent releases came close either. The biggest problem I have with this release is the very creepy cover art - was it designed to drive potential listeners away? It appears to advertise that the music inside is a manic drug-induced mess, which it isn't. Ignore the cover and just enjoy this release for what it is... a solid 70's era rock and roll record steeped in tradition. Think of it this way and you will like it.

Richard knows what makes satisfying rock music, guitar mastery, vocal intensity, clever pop hooks, some hot spice for the rub and a little grease for the fryer. This is delightful effort full of Lloyd's endearing quirkiness and Sonic Virtuosity. Skillful self production helps these recordings deliver fierce authenticity to the discerning listener.

Drinking game: If you took a shot every time this album made you, tap your foot, bob you head, pump a fist or air-guitar you'd be pleanty buzzed by the end. If you like good old-school power-chord ROCK And ROLL this is for you. Very solid effort the Ex-Television guitarist. for me it's a 4.5 star but amz doesn't let us split-stars and since I felt compelled to compensate for the 1 and 2 star FOOL'S reviews, I had no giving it an extra star (or half star really) 1 star? give me a break dude, if it's not your KIND OF MUSIC just SAY THAT! This is Rock & Roll folks.

Richard Lloyd's ego
i've met richard lloyd and found him to be warm, genuine and decent, i'm certain he made these remarks with tounge planted firmly in cheek. as for television, hope for new material was over long, long ago, and by all accounts, recent performances have not proven worth admission price. give me... Read More
