2.0 out of 5 stars Decent material; better as supplement vs. main source
I have just finished my Radiobiology & Protection class; and after a grueling semester, I have found that the Statkiewicz's book is disorganized and confusing. The author tends to hop around topics, for example: it says "see chapter 7 for more information", when you are trying to understand material from chapter 6. I was also using Radiologic Science for Technologists:...

4.0 out of 5 stars Review of Radiation Protection in Medical Radiography, April 16, 2000

Having utilized Mary Alice Statkiewicz-Sherer's excellent text Radiation Protection in Medical Radiography through all three of her excellent editions I feel that I can well recommend this as not only a course level text book but an excellent review. The authors do not stand on the historic scare tactics of many others and yet cover this extensive topic with clarity and objectivity. My students have done well with this book as a text and study guide for the Radiation Protection section of the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, Radiographer examination. I find this is one of the only texts to cover the topic of radiation hormesis with truth and clarity that bespeaks the findings of the extensive double longitudinal study on radiographers performed by the University of Minnesota. With full knowledge as an educator of some 36 years I find this inexpensive paperback version excellent for student afordability.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book, great reference, December 8, 2005

I found this book to be essential for all the info I needed for radiation protection. It's not only well-written but quite complete. It also served as a wonderful reference for studying for the ARRT exam. Another great reference for the ARRT exam, is:
*The Ultimate Study Guide for the Registry Examination in Radiography: Key Review Questions and Answers by Patrick Leonardi, Volume 1, 2 and 3*
This book had great questions that were a definite help for passing the ARRT exam. You can't go wrong with *Radiation Protection in Medical Radiography* and with Leonardi's book.

2.0 out of 5 stars Decent material; better as supplement vs. main source, December 23, 2008
This review is from: Radiation Protection in Medical Radiography, 5e (Paperback)
I have just finished my Radiobiology & Protection class; and after a grueling semester, I have found that the Statkiewicz's book is disorganized and confusing. The author tends to hop around topics, for example: it says "see chapter 7 for more information", when you are trying to understand material from chapter 6. I was also using Radiologic Science for Technologists: Physics, Biology, and Protection (Radiologic Science for Technologists: Phys, Biol & Protectio) in another class, but Bushong's book also contains similiar and MUCH more organized and in-depth detailed pertinent information compartively. Bushong presented the same concepts in a more outlined format along with easy-to-read charts and tables. Some of Bushong's information does get into too much depth (no complaints there). After going through his book after Statkiewicz's, I felt like the material made a lot more sense. The only pro to using Statkiewicz is that she writes more indepth stories about the different radiation accidents.

If I would have known my husband had this book before and I looked through it and not much changes since the last one. But it was required that we purchase this edition for school.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst written and most confusing text book ever, April 14, 2004
By A Customer
I find this book very confusing, I am a student starting my 2nd year of radiology and this is the first time this book has been used by my college, and hopefully in the future they will find a better book. One of my assignments for class is to define all the key terms at the beginning of each chapter, and they are a joke. Starting in chapter 3 there are 2 key terms Dose equivalent and Equivalent dose you look up the definition for dose equivalent and after reading and defining the term it says, dose equivalent is now called equivalent dose. I think this is very confusing. I have seen several things like this already in this book and have only made it to chapter 3, I will be crazy by the time I get through this book and feel for anyone else that has to use this book.
