4.0 out of 5 stars Lets me play the way I do
Easy, straightforward interface (for instance, a button for each number) and navigation through cells. Easy to tell which numbers start with the puzzle and which ones you entered. Provides time-penalized hints in any cell. Pauseable and saves your game between (auto-off) power sessions. Most importantly, this device lets you make "pencil marks"! I have checked out at...

1.0 out of 5 stars Difficult to use
I have been searching for the perfect handheld sudoku game and this is not it. I found it very difficult to see the numbers without a backlight even with my reading glasses. Also I would perfer a stylus pen instead of having to scroll around the screen to enter a number. I do like the idea of being able to use a dry erase pen to mark off numbers, but I couldn't even...

I have checked out at least a dozen products and I have yet to come across an electronic Sudoku that electronically lets me enter dots or Xs to indicate which numbers might (not) be in a cell. It makes me wonder if the people ordered to design and implement these games actually play Sudoku themselves. The closest I've seen let you enter multiple numbers in a cell and it blinks through them, which I find cumbersome and patience-trying. Sadly, this thing doesn't do electronic marks either, but their lower-cost solution involves a dry-erase pen that lets you make the marks right on the screen, on top of little numbers printed in each cell's background. Losing marks in travel is prevented by the recessed contours of the screen. Why not 5 stars? Just the fact that the marks aren't electronic, there's no backlight, and the shadows cast by the dry-erase marks can be a little disorienting. Otherwise, a well-done, fun, and addictive product!

Honestly, I was not familiar with Sudoku before purchasing this game. I had heard of it and knew that it was a new "craze" but I had never played it. Buying Christmas presents I picked up several of these and decided to keep one for myself. I find it completely enjoyable. I have not had to use the dry erase pen yet but I appreciate that it is there in case I do need to mark the screen. I have not had any trouble viewing the screen - it does not light up and I know that some do and this was one of the things I considered when buying this particular game, but I find that I can see it just fine. The buttons are easy to use. After playing with it several times, I am not sure I would even like a model that had a touch screen instead and a stylus instead. This is fun and highly addictive. It is a great item to have when you are waiting for anything - a nice little time waster that actually uses your brain cells but not so difficult as to take away from the entertainment (there are several levels to choose from so you can select a level you are comfortable with - admittedly, I have only ventured to the second level at this point). Anyway, a nice priced diversion. I recommend it whole heartedly.

I like the game a lot!!! To make the game exceptional, an LED light could be added within the game to give that glow when it's dark at night and you don't have light to view the display.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Sudoku Game!, January 14, 2007
This review is from: Big Screen Sudoku (Toy)
This game is great for several reasons: 1) The screen is large and easy to read; 2) The included dry erease pen allows the user to make notes on the screen (a must for any serious Sudoku player); 3) The game has four skill levels; 4) Each game is timed so the player can track his best and average times.

It's a fun game that has a lot of great features.

This device is really nice. I like the fact that it does not have a lot of light to the screen, because that would make batteries go out faster.

The description makes it sound large, but it really isn't that large. It's a nice, portable size. The dry-erase pen slips neatly into the back of the device, easy to keep up with and out of the way.

The instructions seem clear, and it has various proficiency levels and plenty of games. Seems like a good way to play Sudoku!

I purchased this game for my grandmother's 88th birthday. It is easy to use with a button for every number. However, the lack of a back light makes it too difficult for her to see the numbers or the flashing bar denoting which space is ready to receive an entry. I was aware of the absence of a back light before I purchased this item but thought I would give it a try since it was so inexpensive. I wish someone would make a larger game face for those with visual difficulties. Overall, this game is a great value for the money.
