I will admit it...I like handheld games. My family owns several Nintendo Gameboys, GB Advanced, DS, as well as Leapsters, etc. But we like the handheld electronic LCD games for a quick distraction. We probably have 20 simliar LCD games (Yahtzee, Tetris, Connect-4 are the most entertaining). This game delivers what I expected Pearl Quest..nothing more, nothing less.
The game is not difficult. Swap two "pearls" in order to line up three or more pearls of the same color horizontally or vertically. When you do the matching pearls disappear and the remaining pearls drop down in their place. There are three modes of play: 1 - try to get the highest score, 2 - you have 2 minutes to complete a round and reset the clock, 3 - complete the level as fast as possible. (I like mode 2 because it adds some stress to the game.) I want to stress that in all three modes you essentially play the same game. The only difference is whether and how you are being timed. There is a strategy you can use to optimize the number of points received in each move. If you plan your swaps you can cause a cascade effect where more pearls of simliar color line up giving you bonus points. As the game progresses, it gets harder to see where swaps can be made. The Hint option comes in handy in these cases. The game colors are nice and bright. Don't expect a lot of fancy graphics and animation. It comes with its own stylus that fits neatly in the back. (The stylus that comes with the game is not required. You can use any simliar device...even the corner of a business card.) Sound is pretty bleepy (almost annoying but what do you expect). Uses three AAA batteries (and a philips screw driver to replace them). I paid $[...] for it. I honestly think that is too much...but I was looking for a few surprise "I was thinking of you" items to stow in my wife's bag for a long and boring trip she will be taking. I think she will find this as nice distraction.

i am a fan of pick-up-and-play videogames. jewel quest fits the bill nicely. i also own tetris handheld and jq is aporite campinion to it. the fact that it is backlit is a major plus in that you can play it at night. the included stylus fits in the back snuggley. i would recommend picking up 3 alkalines when you buy it b/c when i recived mine, the demo batteries were nearly dead.

What can I say, it's a game that fits in your hand, and can go wherever you go to get bored. It's a Bejewelled type of game with a "touch" screen. The stylus that comes with it is very flimsy, but it does slide into a "holster" on the back. I use a different, more substantial stylus from another game (now defunct). The touch screen is easily scratched and the batteries that come with it barely lasted 2 days.
A replacement set of Duracells lasted about a week and a half, until the colors of the "pearls" on the screen become indistinguishable from each other.

This is a game I found after I discovered "Bejeweled 2" as a computer game. It is a simple, yet okay game. It uses the basic concept of moving spots of color to line up three of the same color. It is not as exciting as "Bejeweled 2 ",but since they haven't invented a handheld "Bejeweled 2 " game, this is a good, watered down imitation.
One of the nicest features is that is lights up nicely at bedtime in the dark and it good to keep under a pillow. It is a good time filler for those trying to relax at bedtime or wake up during the night. The colors are nice and it is a good basic game that does take your mind off worries. The three game versions are basically the same as the other writer said. It is good practice for spotting visual patterns and colors. It is portable. Hand held games like this have many purposes and are easy to "take along" places where an expensive laptop and "Bejeweled 2" excitement and full screen size viewing field are not sensible. I'll be taking this small, lighted game to the hospital with me with a few other selected possessions. The laptop will not be going. I'll bet this game will be a good friend to me if I wake up distressed and need a distraction that is simple, efficient and lighted. I'll get back to the fast excitment of laptop "Bejeweled 2" when I get home. ( I have also noticed that the challenge of lining up a Match of 3 colors or shapes is a common theme in a lot of games. This might be an easy way for young people to begin mastering it). I love handheld games and find different ones good for different reasons. They all are a nice break from whatever work you're involved in and do take your mind away for a while. All time favorites; Free Cell Solitaire ( liked it 3 years now) and Tetris ( 4 months)...( although not a bedtime ,relaxing game).

This is a fun version of a gem swapping type video game like Bejewelled©. You line up at least three pearls either vertically or horizontally and get bonuses if you line up more or form T or L shaped patterns. There are three game modes to choose from. The controlls take a bit to get used to, though.

I saw this game at K-Mart and purchased it for $25. I love handheld games and thought this one looked interesting. It wasn't difficult to learn how to play it. The game screen is nice and the product is durable. It was fun to play in the beginning, but wasn't worth the $25 I spent for it. It is not a game I would play over and over as I do my freecell handheld game.

an interactive hand held video game. using a scribe to move same colored pearls to match 3-4-5 or more to form rows both verticle and horizontal. stratagey plays a role in this game, because you can have more than one play availiable. timed and hi score modes for variations.

This handheld game is great. It has three different games you can play. The backlight is convenient. The only problem I have is running down the batteries since I play it so much! Try it--you'l like it, too!

This is a great little handheld. The screen is easy to see and I like the touchscreen interface. It doesn't have any educational value, but it does pass the time. If you like jewel quest, you'll probably like this too.
