5.0 out of 5 stars Bringing the unimaginable into focus., March 18, 2006

This review is from: Radical Amazement: Contemplative Lessons from Black Holes, Supernovas, and Other Wonders of the Universe (Paperback)
As a scientist of more than 30 years and a lifelong spiritual traveler, I have always been aware of the incredible concordance of the ineffable experienced in both my physical reality and the Other. In Radical Amazement, the author smoothly and convincingly illumines the cohesiveness between modern theories of cosmology and theological reflection. Many readers, whether or not previously initiated into the quirkiness and mystery of the physical universe, will thank Judy Cannato for her deft and clear synthesis of this reality with the Reality that permeates and motivates all. Finally, and most importantly, we are led by the author's insights and questions for reflection to come to rest focused on the meaning behind our journey ... transformation. We are invited into the immenseness of our own possibilities, to move from where we are to the outer boundaries of what we can become. Thanks, Judy, for your effort and your fidelity to your calling. We look forward to your continuing contribution to our radical transformation. -Br. Harry N. Finkbone, OSL, OblSB

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Road to Hope, March 29, 2006
This review is from: Radical Amazement: Contemplative Lessons from Black Holes, Supernovas, and Other Wonders of the Universe (Paperback)
For many years I have been reading about and exploring the evolutionary Universe with others, groping for words, searching for a language able to convey the magnitude and wonder of what we are discovering. As I began reading Radical Amazement I had the sense at once of a freshness of approach that delighted me. Here is someone who has done it! Judy has a wonderful gift for inviting people into this new way of seeing that is at once straightforward and inspiring, full of amazement and not at all threatening.'

As a student of the Universe Story and the New Cosmology, I have read many, many books and articles on the subject. This is by far, the most readable and entertaining, as well as thought provoking and imaginative that I have found. It is at the top of my Most Recommended List for anyone interested in this subject. Based on this volume, I look forward to future works by this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Science validates Christianity!, December 28, 2007
By
This review is from: Radical Amazement: Contemplative Lessons from Black Holes, Supernovas, and Other Wonders of the Universe (Paperback)
Having completed this book, I hated to finish it, it was so full of meaning and gave such a simple application of scientific discoveries to my spiritual life! It used major scientific discoveries such as the expanding universe, black holes, and holograms to illustrate spiritual principles and used the image as a parable to help me understand those principles and how to apply them to my own spiritual travels.

Her message is politically correct. It gives a very simple reason for man to be a better and more ecological manager of this world's resources. It is really ecumenical both among Christian denominations as well as the other major religions of the world. It is not religious, it is spiritual. She gives a unique slant and insight into scientific discoveries. And she does this in such a way that someone totally unfamiliar with the scientific concepts can easily grasp the gist of the discovery, and then see how it speaks to our relationship with our higher power, our fellow man and all of creation.

Even with some recent research into quantum physics and some acquaintance with astronomical findings, it took this book to really integrate so much of that knowledge into a simple, easy to understand message that I can re-read to find ever deeper and richer meaning.

I could go on and on, but let me highly recommend this book by saying what an exquisite treat it was! The topics and their presentation were truly "Radically Amazing"!

This is sheer poetry explaining the theological implications of the evolution of the universe. Concern yourself no more with the conflict between science and religion. There is none now; never was. For the amateur or student of the new physics, Radical Amazement will awaken curiosity, disturb the non-believer and enliven the tired soul. It's a wondrous walk through God's beautiful and mysterious cosmos. To live is to be amazed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Radical Amazement, June 1, 2007
This review is from: Radical Amazement: Contemplative Lessons from Black Holes, Supernovas, and Other Wonders of the Universe (Paperback)
"Radical Amazement" is amazing in itself as it shows how scripture and the Gospels with the new Cosmos Story compliment each other and are not at all incompatible. It is so very helpful for prayer.

5.0 out of 5 stars judy's writing lures us into the mystic, November 28, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Radical Amazement: Contemplative Lessons from Black Holes, Supernovas, and Other Wonders of the Universe (Paperback)
this is the way this amazing book begins:

"All of life-every bit and particle of experience
in every arena we inhabit and at every level of awareness-
invites us into the experience of radical amazement
that is the doorway to the divine...

"Radical amazement, then, is
the stance in which we are invited to live,
a cultivated way of life filled with
attentiveness and vision."

...

spiritual themes are perennially in need of being re-imagined or
these become dimmed thru familiarity and overhearing.
such is what judy offers us with her wonder-inducing prose:
she releases fresh awe by
grafting new metaphors from science unto well-known scripture
and the result is cognitive wonder and fresh insight.

near the end she writes this,
which makes for a most fitting precis of the book:

"Emergence implies the unfolding of that
which has never yet existed.
It requires great trust in the Spirit,
for there are no maps to guide us as we venture
into the unknown.

"We are ready to change directions when necessary
and take risks when required.
Safety and security take back seats to creativity and courage.

"Uncertain about where the journey will take us,
but sure that we must press on,
we participate in the emergence of a new era for humankind,
one that embraces all of life.

"An expanded commitment to emerge asks us to be
open and patient with the new
that is evolving within us as well,
acknowledging that Mystery speaks
as powerfully in darkness as in light."

...

judy's writing lures us into the mystic,
where all fresh beginnings are birthed!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Metaphors, Undeniable Truths, January 11, 2009
By
This review is from: Radical Amazement: Contemplative Lessons from Black Holes, Supernovas, and Other Wonders of the Universe (Paperback)
Judy Cannuto tells the great epic story of our Universe while wedding the emergence of consciousness and divine awareness with the Christian tradition. She does this in a seamlessly inclusive and expansive way that does not desecrate but only broadens and deepens what was parochial faith. A must read for fundamentalists and that other end of the religious spectrum, atheists. Let's face it, everything we hold as meaning and purpose in our lives is an evolving metaphor, some of which are timeless and applicable to our entire space-time history. Judy has made world class poetry out of the largest context - The New Cosmology, and Christianity - a metaphor as good as any for humans. Thanks Judy for taking the time to reach into your deep time for these important revelations for this radically amazing time of our lives.
