3.0 out of 5 stars Good lessons, Distracting philosophies
I found it very difficult to concentrate on the core message of the book because of the distracting philosophies presented.

First I believe that Colin has some very great ideas about forgiving. I can understand and accept the message about anger, hate and other feelings we hang on to cause much of our physical and emotional problems and lead to illness...

As with all great books, it is not so much what is written, but where it leads you. And this book leads the reader(if they are ready)on the first steps of a wonderful journey where one can lovingly let go of what is holding us back from being who we really are.In that discovery we can find out the answers to those elusive questions,"Who am I?" "What am I here for?" Believe me this journey can be a little confronting in the beginning and if one is not ready to let go of one's garbage I can see where some people may react negatively. I was so impressed with the results in my life, I hired the author to come up to our company and do the two day workshop with all our staff. It was the best thing we could have done. The changes in over 50 people have been genuine and positively impacted our business.Personally I would recommend the workshop, the book is great but I feel the opportunity for spiritual growth is limited in reading a book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really works!, December 1, 2002
By
Reverend Paula (Scottsdale, AZ United States) - See all my reviews
Although there is a lot of material here that I have already incorporated into my spiritual life, there were three key things that helped me tremendously. 1. You can't "force" yourself to forgive...it just doesn't work...and it won't work until you're ready -- and that's OK. 2. It's OK to be angry -- just don't let it become addictive; and it's ok to express anger -- as long as it is done in a cleansing, healing manner; and 3. Freeing that "wounded" part of yourself that has been kept deep inside you for a long time. It's really up to you. It's your choice to forgive yourself for giving away your personal power...or it's your choice to remain in a state of pain and sorrow. Make the choice to forgive yourself -- you will find out just how free and powerful you become!

5.0 out of 5 stars A superb technique to change your life, July 28, 2003

As a Unity minister who has been on the "path" for years, I didn't expect to find much new or valuable in this book. But I certainly did. Ideas came "alive" that formerly had been interesting concepts, but not REAL and practical.

Since everything is actually happening "now", conscious actions chosen today can heal both Present problems and patterns created by events in the "Past". Traumatic events have powerful emotions attached. These emotions form patterns that create similar events and feelings over and over again in your life. Unfortunately, many of these patterns were formed when you were a child, so they're usually wrong and downright dangerous. Yet they repeat the same situations wearing new costues. They distort our present.

Normally we like to blame others for all our problems. We dearly love to tell everyone how we have been victimized. "He done me wrong!" is a world class theme.

However,If you can recognize a new possibility, a startlingly different way to view things, a way to see events from another dimension, ...or even if you are only WILLING to TRY a new approach - you can abolish your "victim role"forever. You can recast yourself as a "Winner"in life.

When you use the simple technique of Radical Forgiveness, you release enormous quantities of energy that were trapped in maintaining your original negative patterns. This liberated energy then surges through your life, flowing into new positive patterns that create success and love.

Parents can use Redical Forgiveness as a tool to free their children from traumas that otherwise would ruin their lives. Lovers can REALLY forgive each other and love even more. People who have made horrendous mistakes in their lives can see how these can be "redeemed" and seen as gifts.

This book is one of the clearest explanations of Life that I have eve read. It is a blessing. KNOW the Truth, and you,re freed!"

This book gives each of us a whole new way of seeing life. Using Radical Forgiveness, we can begin to let go of the barriers we have all created. Using this wisdom and insight, we stop blaming others for our situations. As a result, things actually change around us. For me, this masterpiece has been transformational. 5.0 out of 5 stars Accepting this truth will set you free!, December 30, 1998
This review is from: Radical Forgiveness: Making Room for the Miracle (Paperback)
Mr. Tipping has done an excellent job of presenting the Truth about ourselves, others, and God. Unfortunately those who are insecure about themselves may judge this book as a reader from Boston Mass. has done in an effort to make themselves 'better'. This is the way of Ego. In his book Mr Tipping talks about the Ego and why it causes so much of the unhappiness in our lives. The same reader from Boston Mass. judges this book to be written in poor grammer. This book is not about english grammer. This book is about a more universal grammer; Love. Truth is universal. Regardless of who first writes the Truth, it is still Truth. This book teaches that God gives us free will to attract to ourselves the situations and people best suited to grow from. We ourselves decide what our lives will be. Mr Tipping's book explains this, and presents a life style for realizing this gift, and properly benefiting from it. If you want to continue your life with the inevitable suffering which society teaches us to accept and propagate, than Radical Forgiveness is not for you. But if you want to learn how to use God's gift and bring peace to yourself and the world, Read this book. The Truth here can change your life. It can change to world. The choice is yours. God will not interfere; It is His gift He has given to you. Reading this book begins the choice to be happy. The Lord's prayer asks God to forgive us our trespasses as we forgive our trespassers. This means that as we forgive ourselves and others, we receive God's forgiveness for doing so. But do you really know how to do this? Read this book and you will know. And remember: you are not alone, We are All One. Now is the time!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best self-help book ever!, May 26, 2006

I read _Radical Forgiveness_ after one particularly painful argument with a boyfriend that I couldn't separate from. We'd tried to break up dozens of times before, but we still could neither change our patterns of behavior with each other nor break it off entirely.

Anyhow, the book was totally transformative--it gave me the ability to shift and widen my perspective enough to change the dynamic we were trapped in with each other. My seeing him differently, my "radically forgiving" him by understanding that I wasn't a victim, gave him the space to see me differently as well. Since then we've both been able to move on but have been very close friends.

I've re-read the book after heavy disagreements with other friends or lovers and each time it's been very helpful. Actually, just reading the first chapter is sometimes enough for me, and that you can read for free if you find the author's website. It's very easy and quick reading, and presents ideas very simply and coherently that in other therapeutic formats might take months or years to learn.

Highly, highly recommended, particularly if you are feeling estranged from someone you love.

5.0 out of 5 stars the way to go, June 7, 2006

This book takes all the sting out of forgiviness. The tools presented support positive and quick changes in life and events. Instead of feeling victimized by forgiving someone, these tools show how forgiveness is the highest form of love, strength and power. If patterns are repeating in your life, or you can't let go of an event or experience, this book could hold the key.

5.0 out of 5 stars First the book, then a workshop, June 12, 2004
By
If you are ready, the book will completely change how you look at the world & at circumstances in your life. Suddenly the worst situations become opportunities to identify a need for healing in one's own life, & the means are provided to enable the healing (e.g. worksheets... or better yet, a workshop!). Time to move past retaliation on one end of the scale, or self-righteous 'traditional' forgiveness on the other end... this book helps us to leave "Victimland" & heal the unconscious issues in ourselves that give rise to negative, repeating, frustrating patterns. And at the highest level, the concepts help reinstate one's basic faith in the divine plan of the universe, & see that all things really can work together for good. But truly, reading the book at an intellectual level is only a start. True change comes with applying the principles/methodologies. And they are NOT hard at all. And yes, the power of thought IS VERY POWERFUL. I have recently attended a workshop let by the author & his wife, & it took this process to new levels in my life.. I would highly recommend it !

3.0 out of 5 stars Good lessons, Distracting philosophies, February 8, 2010
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I found it very difficult to concentrate on the core message of the book because of the distracting philosophies presented.

First I believe that Colin has some very great ideas about forgiving. I can understand and accept the message about anger, hate and other feelings we hang on to cause much of our physical and emotional problems and lead to illness.

There are some very powerful lessons about how we play the victim role, how we want to be right, how we need to be validated. And our need to be right often creates or increases the problems in our lives. We often attract those who are a mirror of what we don't like about ourselves.

And even though he says Radical Forgiveness works whether you believe his assumptions or not, I still have some trouble getting past his assumptions. He is very honest and straightforward in his beliefs. He shares his assumptions but does not offer any proof on them in this book.

One of his assumptions is that the soul lives before and after the body. That our soul chooses to be born and chooses who the parents will be. Because of our past lives, we come into this life with certain problems and that fate brings people into our lives to help us solve the problem. He further believes that the soul forgets everything about past lives at a conscious level but retains knowledge at the subconscious level.

I do believe that a lot of what is taught in this book can bring about healing of the body and soul. However unless you are willing to overlook those things that you do not agree with or can totally embrace his philosophy and assumptions, you will probably be too distracted to see the value of the lessons. Even if you see and agree with the good points, some people will find the assumptions so distracting that they will only focus on what they disagree with.

If you cannot approach this book with a totally open mind, then do not even begin it. On the other hand, if you are comfortable with the core assumptions, you will probably find lots of value in the book.

If you can get past the philosophies, he gives you a worksheet for applying Radical Forgiveness to your own life.
