4.0 out of 5 stars Great Radio Transcriptions By Legendary Bluegrass Act, November 22, 2002
By
Todd A. Gracyk (Petaluma, CA USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: On the Radio 1952-1953 (Audio CD)
The Lilly Brothers & Don Stover were an outstanding bluegrass act from West Virginia. They were based in Boston, Massachusetts during the 1950s and 1960s. Everett Lilly played mandolin (and occasional fiddle), Bea Lilly played guitar, and Don Stover played banjo. Their repertoire included many older country music songs. This album features wonderful radio transcriptions from the early 1950s and contains quite a few popular bluegrass numbers of the day. Sound quality is mostly decent. The packaging here is lovely. There are 11 photographs and extensive notes by Mike Toney, Jim Rooney, and Marian Leighton. There are also song notes by Everett Alan Lilly (Everett Lilly's son).

5.0 out of 5 stars Bluegrass Radio Transcription!, February 5, 2007
By
This review is from: On the Radio 1952-1953 (Audio CD)
This is a treasured gem among traditional bluegrass albums. This CD takes some 20 tracks from various radio shows in the early 1950s, and feature the Lillys singing some great numbers and ole Don Stover tearing up the five string banjo. This is bluegrass radio at its best, get yours, pals!

5.0 out of 5 stars Old Time Bluegrass Music, November 2, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: On the Radio 1952-1953 (Audio CD)
I love the real old time Bluegrass Music and the Lllly Brothers and Don Stover fill the bill. I like the old time playing and close harmony. If you like "real" bluegrass this is for you.
