5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for beginners and intermediate skilled modellers
Even though the book was written in Europe (it refers to some materials, which are hard to find in the U.S.), its quite useful and well written. I consider myself an experienced scratch builder, but I found a lot of useful information, building techniques, and construction ideas in this book. Highly recommend to everybody using foam in the airplane construction.

2.0 out of 5 stars Radio Control Foam Modeling
I read this easy to read book in just over a hr. The Auther spends way to much time on how to build a hot wire cutter, and not a lot of time on actually on "foam Modelling. Not worth the money spent.I will sell the book for $10 plus postage.

Thank you NEXUS Special Interest Books (UK) for putting this book back in circulation. If anyone is even thinking about building their first Foamie, this book is a must, for it will answer your basic questions on the "dos and don't" about FOAM, a very well though out book for any modeller's first Foam aeroplane.. Thank You David Thomas, Sid King

Even though I just bought this book (not from Amazon), my edition appears to be the 1999 one, not 2000. At any rate, the book is really excellent. What impressed me most was the simple design of the tools employed, from the hot wire cutter to the vacuum bagger, all appear to be buildable from stuff at the local auto parts store, junkyard, and hardware store. Things like a cheap auto battery charger, old refrigerator compressor, etc. Nothing exotic.

Not only that, but after describing how to build wings from templates, he gives an explanation of how to draw the templates, with details on a half-dozen popular wing shapes. Like everything else in the book, he takes you through it step-by-step, leaving nothing out.

Overall, I think this must be one of the best "how to" books I've ever read.

This book is well worth the price as an introduction to foam modeling. It is not meant to be an instruction manual on building any particular foam craft, as one reviewer seemed to expect, but a series of discussions on tools and techniques for building ANY foam model.

I dropped one star only because the material is just a bit dated and newer stuff is out there. Also, not covering a gravity-style hot foam cutter is a pretty serious omission... but that info is available everywhere on the Internet nowadays.

Every modeler that builds, or is interested in building, from foam should buy this book. The used versions are so cheap as to be almost free.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Book, August 1, 2007
This review is from: Radio Control Foam Modelling (Paperback)
Anyone interested in learning the basics of foam model construction would be well advised to pick up a copy of this book. Everything is written in a clear, easy-to-understand text that takes one through making tools, cutting foam, covering and sheeting methods, and other modeling uses for foam.

It is highly recommended.

A very good book that all airplane modelers must to read! With a lot of images, in this book the author explain the "how to" foam modelling, with profused information to make tools, templates, wings, fuselages, and includes the laser cutting method! Also the repair techniques are included. In the last chapter (Chapter 14) the aerofoils plotting is explained, with the coordinates of most popular aerofoils.

4.0 out of 5 stars Radio Control Foam Modeling - Advancing the Hobby Skills, May 6, 2011

This is a good second book for those already familar with constructing basic RC (radio control) flying models out of foam and are ready to expand their knowledge and construction skills. The author discusses how to construct and use hot wire cutters (HWC) for foam commonly used for RC aircraft. He also reviews other details needed for successful design of flying models and how to expand the building skills needed for basic and advanced model types. The model aircraft addressed include RC models with motors and gliders. The information about properly "skinning" and repairing a foam wing or fuselage is well worth the purchase price.
