Two really great albums together in one nice package! Infinite Rider, sounds better than I have ever heard it before! Both albums are more pop/rock than his previous 6 country rock flavored solo albums. If you like well written and performed pop/rock that is intelligent and witty, then you will love these albums like I do. It's too bad Michael took a decade or so off from recording after these two albums. I would have liked to see what would have come after these. The new liner notes by Michael are fun to read. This set of albums is well worth buying; it's a fun period for Nez! If you want to know which order I would buy his album in; I would suggest just starting with his first solo album, Magnetic South (1970), and just work by way up through his catalog. It's all worth owning!

This review is from: From a Radio Engine to the Photon Wing/Infinite Riders On The Big Dogma (Audio CD)
Although made within two years of each other "From A Radio Engine to The Photon Wing" and "Infinite Rider of the Dig Dogma" couldn't be more differently musically. Both albums are exceptionally good with a slight edge (to me at least) for "Dogma" which generated a surprising hit for Nesmith with "Crusin'" with it's very clever early music video (that got substanial airplay as I recall in the San Francisco area) and anticipated MTV by a good 5 years (it was released in 1979)."Wing" is a country rock classic with "Rio" which became a Top 40 hit in the UK (Nesmith made his first music video for "Rio" when Chris Blackwell the head of Island Records told him they needed something that could be aired on TV and Nesmith responded with his first "music video"). Featuring a variety of country-rock songs and recorded in Nashville, "Wing" was a return to more traditional album making after the critical sting of the concept album "The Prison". It features a wonderful cover of the 1950's song "Navajo Trail". "Dogma" was a radical turn in direction compared to "Wing" is much more of a straight ahead rock record in comparison. In fact when I first put "Dance" on back in the day I wondered if I had the rock LP in the sleeve as Nesmith delivers a shouting, hard edged vocal. The Edsel reissue features the longer version of "Flying" as well as sleeve notes by Nez himself. The only complaint is that when this was reissued in 2008 I would have liked to have seen bonus tracks as part of the package since these albums had already been issued on Camden in the 1990's. Remastered (according to the liner notes and a sticker on the front) by Nez himself both albums sound pretty darn good for a modern day remaster; neither album is brickwalled and there's good dynamic range on both albums. The lack of bonus tracks shouldn't matter if you are (like me) replacing the previous versions of these albums on CD. This is priced at the cost of a single CD but features two with "Wing" on the first and "Dogma" the second.

From a Radio Engine to the Photon Wing was as I remembered, pleasant somewhat country. I really enjoy listening to it. The Infinite Rider was another story. However, for the price, I can't complain AT ALL !!!
