OK, I have read the reviews and am puzzled by the conflicting reports. I have six kids and have owned many trikes over the years. This one is by far the best I have seen. I think other reviewers may be reviewing different Radio Flyer trikes. This model comes in the primary or pastel colors, although the pastel is hard to find. It is very stable and I could not get it to tip with even very firm pressure. The handle bars do not turn all the way around, they lock safely before anything dangerous would happen. My daughter is 2.5 and was able to climb on and pedal right in the store. We have been all over the neighborhood this past week and she has not fallen once. My neighbor's 18 month old daughter tried it this afternoon and while she had a tough time figuring out the pedals, there was no sign of tipping or danger. This trike is obviously styled after the Kettler and I think they did a great job at a great price. The trike comes fully assembled and folds for travel. It can even be folded and hung on a hook in the garage. I paid $40 for this trike and I think it is a fabulous find!!

When we first started searching for a tricycle for my 20 month old daughter we wanted to get the best one possible so naturally we started looking at kettlers. While looking at them at our local toy r us store my daughter found this one and would not get off of it. So my husband and I started to read about it and found that it had most of the features of a Kettler tricycle, no tip turn radius, the high back seat, the seat has a 3 postion adjust and it even had some cutesy features on it like the bell and handle bar tassels that you have to pay extra for on a kettler. The only thing missing is the push bar which we really didn't need because my daughter started pedaling the bike before we left the store.

Classic Radio Flyer That Is Portable and A Big Hit!!!,

I bought this trike for my 1 1/2 year old and just loves it. It is fully assemble and easy to collapse making it portable to take with us in the car. My son just loves to push the tricycle around. He hasn't quite figured out pedaling yet, but it's easy for him to push it with his feet. I haven't seen anything to lead me to worry about it tipping. This bike is much more attractive then some of the plastic models out there.

My grandson just turned 2 years old and wanted a bike. I broused Toys R Us and found this Trike. When I brought him to the store he went crazy. He just loves it and puts his "sippy's" in the back of the trike. It is the best toy I could have bought him. It folds up so you can take it anywhere.

This trike was one of the top choices for a Christmas gift for my 27 month old son. The ages say 18 months -4 years, but there is no way is that possible. My son is 36inches tall and too big for this trike. When he tried to get on the trike holding on to the handle bars, it tipped over. I thought he did something wrong, so i placed him on the bike, then he tried to push forward on the handles bars to get his feet to go and the trike tipped again. I would most definitely try it out. I did put my son on the bigger version of this Trike , the fold n go XL, but he was too short to reach the pedals, but atleast if offers more room for growth.

I have a 2-year-old who is small for his age, so I was looking for a smaller trike. He loves this trike and it is not tipsy as some of the other models of Radio Flyer are. The other comparably-sized (and same-priced) trike is the Preschool Fold-up Trike by Friendly Toys, but it is not nearly the trike that the Radio Flyer is. The RF is way more heavy duty and for the same price! Another bonus is not having to assemble it. It's already assembled! My little boy started pedaling on it right away and he's never ridden a trike before, so I know it must fit him well.

If i had to do it all over again, i would not have purchased this trike now knowing what i know. It really is a very poor design. Unlike most 3 wheelers, the rider sits right over the front handlebars, making it very unstable. Most 3 wheelers, have slightly extended front forks, which adds to a better center of gravity. On this 3 wheeler, anytime my grandson would lean the slightest bit forward, the trike would tumble forward. He hit his head on the floor once. I really wouldnt recommend this to anyone.

I didn't believe what I read about the tip over hazard until I saw it happen to my 2.5 yrs old. The tricycle just tip over when she tried to steer it. OK, she's still learning so she may have steer too far but we still don't expect it to tip over at such a low speed. Fortunately she had helmet on so only got a couple scratches on her legs and arms. She has never tip over in her other tricycle, Kiddio Steering ST2 by Kettler.

Caution!! Don't be swayed by the cute factor,

This trike has tipped over so many times I can't even count them. Every child that sits on it eventually falls over (it's been banned by my playgroup). But it's so cute you say. Don't be swayed by this. Try pushing down on one side of the handle bars like you would if you were two and getting on the thing. Wham. If falls right over. Try turning the wheel sharply to the left or right and barely touch it. (Your young child will do this over and over again) Wham. If the tassels and the bell are too irresistible make sure your child is wearing his/ her padded body suit and a helmet. The fold and go has gone back. I ended up buying a much, much, safer trike from a different manufacturer.

I just returned this trike to Toys-R-Us today, Sept 5th. My son has been using this bike since July 8th and he hasn't been using it all THAT much. And he *never* beat it up or played rough on it. Just regular use.
But just yesterday as I watched him ride around our deck, I noticed that he was having trouble getting it to go. At first I thought the wheels were skidding over the ground but as I looked closer, I noticed that the pedals were actually slipping through the front wheels. Radio Flyer has come up with a gizmo that prevents kids from pedaling backwards, as you used to be able to do with a normal trike. Unfortunately, whatever plastic mechanical pieces they inserted had stripped out over the past 60 days. Now the piece that prevents him from backing into me also prevents him from getting anywhere. I have to say that I'm really disappointed about this, because other than this issue, the trike is a wonderful toy. My son and I would ride to the park and back often and he was always stopping to pick up "treasures" to leave in the back carry-all. We had some good times on this trike, but I'll be looking into getting him something else to accomplish the transportation job... A trike shouldn't break down that quickly with simple, regular use. |
